Even when people in institure of genetics in blocked0 Leningrad were dying because of famine they did not cook any single grain of their band of cereals and saved that for future research.
That’s probably not true. At least in Stalingrad, they failed to re-locate the zoo at the right time, but animals were not eaten, some even survived. Citizens were quite angry when f$ching nazi killed an elephant. You know, it’s hard to hide an elephant at the ground floor so it was one of first victims. And you know, it’s hard to not recognize an elephant, so some bastard is probably killed it just for fun.

1. Bear is so small that it don’t know how to hunt.
2. Not all bears eat beef. Many eats fish and many are vegetarians. That’s not more than question of habits but nevertheless it’s much safer to meet a fisher-bear than a bear that knows taste of beef.

The camera the old gentleman is using in one of the cameras looks very modern; is it a Lomo? According to Wikipedia, Lomo made the first Russian camera in 1930. I am guessing by styles around him late 40’s to early 60’s?
The komodo or monitor lizard will have the time of its life staring up that girl’s skirt.

Interesting set of photos. I don’t think all of them are from the 20’s but they are still quite old. Just the exhibits themselves would be interesting, just comparing them to what modern exhibits look like now.
It doesn’t look like they worried too much about safety or putting animals that may not go well together in the same exhibit, or did they let them run loose?
Still very interesting photos. I would love to see photos from other zoos around the world around that time to compare them.
