The ’screw-drive’ has been around since the 1920’s. Both for land and sea vehicles. They do work, but have some problems. They tend to be hard to maneuver in tight spaces. They are not the most efficient way to move an amphibian in the water. And as you can see, they are not exactly environmentally friendly. Just imagine taking one of these for a run on public land. In short, screw-drives work well, but in limited applications.
Must suck to get run over by that.
