The Screw Drive

When there is no roads a Screw Drive powered trucks come to help in Russia. They can go literary everywhere and were widely used by military as well as in some civil operations like to rescue Russian astronauts after their landing in a Random place across vast Russian territories.

      • Surely not a fake. Russian name for this sort of vehicles is “shnekohod”, after “shnek” that is beef feeding screw of mincing-machine and “hod” that is for something that moves by itself.

      I heard these were never mass produced, the screws tore up the terrain so bad and there was problems with the drive. Good idea, just not practical.

    11. The ’screw-drive’ has been around since the 1920’s. Both for land and sea vehicles. They do work, but have some problems. They tend to be hard to maneuver in tight spaces. They are not the most efficient way to move an amphibian in the water. And as you can see, they are not exactly environmentally friendly. Just imagine taking one of these for a run on public land. In short, screw-drives work well, but in limited applications.
