      Amazing pics.

      FIrst.

    2. Kris says:

I really like places like that.

    3. Looks like Petersburg about 7 or 10 years ago when many old buildings were razed to make room for new shopping centers and apartments.

The think the first picture is what is left of the old “Palace to Commemorate the Second Five-Year Plan”. It was knocked down to make room for the expansion of the Mariinsky Theater, seen in the background.

A nice contrast to the shots from the helicopter that were posted a few weeks ago.

      • Starshii says:

In my mind the first picture is from Pl.Vostania, they demolished the old house in the corner of Nevsky and ul.Vostania to make way for the finnish department store Stockmann.

I have a rather large collection of pictures like these from St:Petersburg myself too as I think its allways a pity when old, usually beatiful buildings are torn down. But I guess when the city is full of them they think one or two less wont make any difference. Still for their defence I must say that they usually re-built the facades to look more or less like the old originals.

      Reminds me of north Philly

    5. Sturmovik says:

Is that a dick on the girl in the 5th photo?

    6. Pictures are quite nice of course, although if somebody from abroad will watch them without proper comments they would think that St.Petersburg still looks like in 1945 with slight improvements. :-) In my opinion, photographer should be responsible for the impact of his photos, not just about his photographers ego.

      • MINK says:

in my opinion, the photographer cannot possibly be responsible for how other people perceive the photos, that is out of his control. And most people are intelligent enough to know that this is art, not a news report. You can find places like this in all cities. Nothing to be embarassed about, it’s beautiful. and btw he’s using HDR not saturation etc. kthxbye

    7. Richard S. says:

      Must be redevelopment properties.

    8. Vitaliy says:

Out- out are the lights- out all!
      And, over each quivering form,
      The curtain, a funeral pall,
Comes down with the rush of a storm,
While the angels, all pallid and wan,
      Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, “Man,”
And its hero the Conqueror Worm.

looks like post nuclear war backdrop from a movie like threads. Scarry to see how real this is though, and how poor many russians are living. Russia needs a major overhaul

      • Фани says:

“Бедные россияне” нормально живут. Во многих городах мира можно найти подобные виды. Не нужно думать, что Россия это одна большая стройка, временнами помойка. :)

    23. Leela says:

I guess what a work he has done to find such views…Some pictures look that they are made after Second World war…And i havent EVER seen in Russia people, sitting near such a fire, it more reminds me poor new york streets that are shown in films.

    24. Great pictures, very eerie yet awe inspiring.
