An Abandoned Library
Years before, during the Soviet Rule, books were considered to be the greatest treasure. Children in schools were taught to treat the books with care and love.
It seems now this doesn’t work. At least at some libraries.

Sad really, such a waste.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but these photos look familiar so I am going to take an educated guess…
This is actually (at least I am fairly certain) the library of School Number One in Beslan, North Ossetiya, which was taken hostage in 2004. Notice the broken windows on the left side of the top of the photos. The school was totally ransacked during the siege and should not be taken to reflect how Russians currently treat library books.

Where is this place? Is this just the work of vandals? Some physical rejection of the arguments contained in the books themselves?

these books appear to be technical manuals. most likely this is in some closed college or vocational school

They say its some kind of technical library situated near old abandoned factory. Those are mostly technical reference books and some communism theory.
Still its sad to see so many books in such state. Maybe I should find where is it near Moscow and get some of them for myself. Though I think there condition is that bad so you cant really be keeping those at home…..
One sad though got to me - with rise of computers and internet you dont really need many books anymore…

Looks like outdated technical manuals in some abandoned institution = useless crap. It could have been recycled though but probably not worth the trouble.
Maybe some political books without real value. About communism etc?

Looking at the books’ titles, I’d assume this library was within one of many abandoned PTUs. PTU used to be some kind of specialized technical colledge in the USSR to teach and prepare specialists of main working professions like locksmiths, lathe operators, machienists etc. With disintegration of the USSR this system was completely lost. Fortunaltely, know it is being gradually revived.
well as far as i remmember . my parents told me that they would take away the books and burn them. and those books were out of print eather way so it doesnt matter . cuz if u ever look inside those books they talked how. stalin, and lenin were great. and thosse are just books they teach u at school

Nowadays, russia and many post commie countries are sources of the brightest, widest minds on the earth. In their ignorance, western countries fail to see that. What a horrible waste… it really makes me sad, I am of the opinion that nothing should go to waste, especially knowledge! Knowledge is among the most precious things we have, as for printed knowledge, it is capable of surviving us for several generations, printed knowledge is the gift from those of generations past to us, we should do our best to preserve them…
Obviously, obsolete books. But you’re right, the paper should be recycled.
I agree with you 100%. Even if a lot of those books are some form of propaganda from the old days it doesn’t mean that they are worthless, you just have to use your discretion and it will still be educational.It’s just that the original intent of the author became transparent.

Libraries are rightly called the store house of valuable knowledge. It was invented in 5th century BC with both fiction and non fiction books and today there are millions of library all over the world. With rapid growing advancement in every field more and more documents are becoming available in printed forms and Libraries keep and preserve materials making availability of all the historical items.
Many Libraries in India have not yet catalogued all of their holdings and searching the physical format of over 100 years has become a difficult task. Due to the invent of new technologies, many providers are now providing customized digitization services to the libraries around the world.
Digital Library Advantage -
Digital libraries need not keep large and expensive stores of bulky and decaying paper. Libraries can shrink from large warehouses to small rooms and catalogs can be electronic, electronically updatable, and computer generatable, making them easier, faster, and cheaper to search, produce, and update. Libraries will not need to buy multiple copies to allow for book scuffing, book destruction, or to place one book in several categories.
Nor will they need binderies to bind journals or magazines into volumes, or to rebind old books. Nor will they need reshelvers. Also, the library can more easily refer readers to other books with similar subjects, tastes, or interests.
Libraries will not need to chemically treat their decaying books, microfilm them, or transcribe them to large-print, or audio. All transformations are easier with electronic books.

Even if those are just manuals, they shouldn’t be treated that way.
Even considering most of them are tecnical manual, guiding my thougts by the previous commentary, it still is a waste of books. And space the could be used.
