I have lived there and I can assure you it is depicted very wrong, I could make a website called “russianamerica” and go to middle of nowhere Alabama, take pictures, doctor them, and then post them saying “This is every day America”.

You seriously think that some upper-class school (which, by the way, was founded by US, UK and Canadian embassies) in the middle of Moscow is “everyday Russia”?
Sure, this site is 95% pure nonsense, but if you think that by living a while in Moscow you know what Russia is all about, then man, you’re way off. That’s like saying “I lived in a hotel in Manhattan so I know what the USA is all about” - especially now with Putin’s Russia, where Moscow with it’s gas-powered local economy is all that matters.
These particular pictures may not all be from Russia, or even “real”, but they ARE what everyday life is about: accidents, crap on city streets, shitty old worn-down cars, mud and snow, stupid people and alcoholism. Welcome to the real world.
Uhhh considering I was born in USSR(my parents are south korean however, not north they came for religious purposes), and lived in more than one city, I know what it is like. My parents moved to the U.S during the economic crisis, but then my father had an option to make a lot more money while being in Moscow.
Of course there is bad areas, just like any other country. But this website exaggerates it to the point where it is just pure propaganda, and it’s not like I am rich or something, only upper-middle class.
And by the way, I went to the school so I’d know more about it than you, the original plan for it was started by the Soviet embassy contacting other embassies.
Sure, Russia isn’t the greatest country in the world (but on this site they try to depict it as a third world country), and I doubt it ever will be, but it will become one of the most powerful economic countries, considering the biggest corporation in the world will be Gazprom. U.S sure has a lot of money to spend, yes I know this doesn’t reflect the economy as a whole, it’s more about per capita income (Which, currently in Russia stands at $15,000, to compare Japan stands at $30,000, U.S stands at $45,000).
But even that will become better and better as years go by, it was very very bad in 1998(hence the move to U.S), only $2,000.
I am starting to believe U.S has the most negative view on Russia(besides a few eastern european countries that are poor anyway), because every other country I have been to, the people there had either neutral views or positive, but almost never negative. And I don’t blame Americans, when they’re exposed to garbage like this website, the media, and so forth, the most pretty picture you see of Russia are old grey ones in WW2 era with broken buildings.
I’ve never taken this website seriously enough to consider it “propaganda”. And besides, if they’d post just pictures about normal, decently living people, how long do you think this site would have traffic?
By the way, upper-middle-class is pretty fucking rich, if you’re looking at it from the lower classes.
Yeah, Russia may be economically powerful, but so was Hitler’s Germany in it’s better days. And when it comes to Gazprom, I have to say that I don’t raelly like the idea of a corporation that has it’s own private ARMY, nor do I like the idea of a nation that allows the said company to have one…
If you think the US has a negative view on Russians, come visit Finland some time. There are shitloads of people here who are utterly convinced that “the only good Russian is a dead Russian” - and that view, narrow-minded as it may be, doesn’t come from the media, but from real world experiences from living in a country that has been bullied around by it’s eastern neighbour for longer than anyone can remember.

Blackwater is company whose line of business IS providing training and pseudo-military services - Gazprom is a company whose main line of business is energy production, but it HAS ITS OWN private army. There’s a big difference between the two.

The fact that Gazprom is pumping raw natural resources of Russia across its borders in quantities never seen before, does not mean that Russia is economically strong.
Look at Japan. They have nearly no natural resources and still are one of the biggest economies in the world. Now, THAT is a strong economy.
Also, it is not the USA only who have negative view about Russia. Take a map and draw a line some 2′000 km West from Russian border parallel to it. Everyone who is in that zone knows what Russians really are, and not from Wikipedia but from real life experience, and share feelings rather similar to those described here by Wooshkaboom from Finland.

These shots are definitely not “everyday”. What’s “really everyday” is not interesting. In any country you wake up, eat something, go to work, do someting more or less boring, return back, relax a bit and go to bed. Nothing that is worth making a shot.

This site is clearly here to make fun of russia. And who likes to make fun of russians the most? Americans. Why? Becuase that’s what they were taught their whole lives. Why were they tought that? Becuase America is scared shitless of Russia. Why are they scared shitless? Becuase Russia poses a threat militarily and economically. All this hatred is really a form of flattery in my eyes. On the topic of gazprom and its military (which I didnt know they had one). Gazprom is a goverment owned company, so in reality its not even a company or a corporation, its just a branch of the government. Like the IRS in the U.S. So protecting it with goverment military is perfectly understanable considering they deal in many remote parts with lots of expensive equiptment and product.
