Roads of Moscow

Moscow Drivers

Below there are 29 videos from different road cams on the streets of Moscow. Each short video shows some road accident in Moscow taped by those security cams, and looking at them it’s obvious that most of them happened because of driver’s ignorance.

    4. Note to self: Never ever use Russian roadways!

A lot of those accidents didn’t need to happen.
They were preventable by simple things such as barriers and signs.

        • mikle3d says:

Ты гандон мозг не еби. Сиди в своей украине тухлой и не рычи.

we in russia don’t read signs. sad but true.

    5. nahoda says:

      Wow,
That was all just bad driving, definately one person’s fault!

    6. Stupid brainless russians, the animals seem to be smarter, at least they look ahead, russians dont, they need to go right now and faster then anybody else can!

    7. Akhenathon says:

Driving under influence, walking under influence…

    8. I’m so glad I don’t need to commute

    9. Evgeny says:

Insane videos, especially the first one. You can see debris falling down like over a second after the collision.
I think these are the combination of overwhelming number of cars, bad driving and bad road conditions. From all the countries and cities I’ve driven in Moscow could probably only compare with the Dominican republic where they have no street lights at all and the roads are for shit. The average travel speeds over there are way less than in the Moscow traffic.

    10. rus says:

not easy for forieng brains understand moscow driving)

    11. ALexeY says:

Мда уж, в россии все так же остаются 2 проблемы, дураки и дороги!

    12. quote says:

      560,000

Total mileage of all roads in Russia, paved and unpaved

      4,000,000

Miles of paved roads in the United States of America

The U.S. has nearly eight times more paved roads than Russia has total roads even though it has only 9 million square miles of territory while Russia has nearly twice as much land area (17 million square miles). This means that the U.S. has nearly 16 times the amount of paved roadway per square kilometer as Russia has total roadway (a good rough approximation of the difference between the two countries’ overall economies as well).

According to Russia’s own data, one in three Russian villages is not connected to the outside world by any type of road.

A corollary is that the U.S. consumes 21 million barrels of oil each day, while Russia consumes only a puny 2.5 million barrels, almost ten times less than America’s total. You don’t need much oil if you have no roads to drive your cars on (and if most people, earning an average wage of less than $4 per hour, can’t afford a car in the first place, then you have even less need of roadways). Another fact little acknowledged by Russian nationalists and Russophiles is that while Russia produces a lot of oil each year, about 3.5 billion barrels, America also produces a huge amount, around 3 billion barrels. It’s just that America uses all it produces and then some, while Russia has nothing but some extra cash to show for it fossil fuels, which do not really “fuel” its economy at all.

This is the country that is challenging America to a new cold war.

And so it goes in Russia.

      • Dimk says:

That’s not quite correct statistic. 2/3 or Russian land area is permafrost. Only crazy would build paved roadway in permafrost. The rest of Russia also has cold winters and hot summers which is not good for the shape of roads. That’s way Soviet Union mostly used railroads rather than roadways for transportation of goods around the country.

      • _d_ says:

        True, true …
but believe or not, power of the country weakly depends on its ability to waist lots of oil :)

        • quote says:

          True.
From Russian point of view the power of a country (or you possibly wanted to say “Greatness”) does not depend upon living standard of its citizens. It never did for Russia, whatever the regime.
What Russians really want is to be feared of. So that they can feel being “Superpower”. Regardless of how pathetic the lives of their citizens are.
To hell with the rest! International cooperation, democracy, roads, etc. - who needs them?! Let’s better build some more tanks!
Just like in that story about Upper Volta with nuclear missiles/gas pipe.

          • unquote says:

For how many Russians are talking, man ? What you know about living here ? Our military budget is 1/100 of USA’s one, and our army is not involved in any actions against other countries.

And no one will learn me with democracy values and other crap until if his own country will not have honestly elected president.

Weak up and open your stupid eyes.

            • justin says:

              > and our army is not involved in any actions against other countries

Err, are you sure? Really, really sure?
What about all the hilly area?
              Chechnia, Georgia, Afganistan?

Oh, I forgot, you are just helping to patrol the area and are standing for the rights of local Russians there.

Hmm, how did Russians get to those places in the first place? Oh, I forgot.. again! During the WWII all the countries around Russia WILLINGLY joined the state.

              > What you know about living here?

That every 7th person is addicted to alcohol..
That you like to crush and destroy things instead of building them.
That you have a tradition of having a fight during weddings.

Thank god, you’re dying faster than copulating and that you’re being invaded by Chinese. At least these guys work and keep their environment moderately undestroyed.

              • Dimitry says:

Chechnia is russian territory, there are no russian troops in Georgia and Afghanistan. But US troops are there!

What would you say if Texas with all its oil decides to go for independence?

      • grizzlybear says:

when you say “America”…, do you mean the Continent, entire continent, I mean, norht, central and south america?
I hope so, if not, you are wrong calling the United States of America just “America”. The States are only ONE country, not a continent.

    15. Marina says:

      Awful, simply awful!

    16. maxD says:

Speeding, overtaking on the right, ignoring red lights, not paying attention, ignoring blind spot, basically ignoring all traffic and traffic signs. And using your mobile phone in the meantime. Or watching a DVD while driving.

That sums up the russian driving style.

    17. Quintius says:

It would have been nice if the videos were numbered, so that it would be easy to refer to a particular one.

The first one, the guy got smoked.
It think it is the 13th one… pedestrian suicide by car! He got hit on his second try.

    18. Henke says:

It’s blatantly obvious that the russian traffic system does not work. Not only are the roads of unsafe design, the people using them have an apparent lack of self awareness and their responsibility in traffic. I’ve watched all the videos and I am appaled at the speed at which people careen down city streets in the belief they are racing around Monaco.

Solution: disqualify ALL drivers in Russia from driving, bring the license qualifications up to european standards and then make everyone retake their licenses. Then build proper roads.

    19. After watching these amazingly stupid accidents I can only conclude that the entire Russian nation is one gigantic case of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. The drivers don’t even take the common laws of physics into consideration. These are some of the dumbest accidents I have ever seen in any country.
To be simply going down the road and then to suddenly cut across five lanes with no signal at 60 miles per hour…this is the sign of lunacy.
Russians appear to have total and complete disregard for the natural concept of traffic flow.
How is this possible in a country that produces some of the finest dancers on earth?

    20. Aliena says:

Know that before to offend us, look at itself, not completed people. From huge crowd of normal people, you have chosen the president-idiot. You can be proud now yourselves, that such not far-sighted. If you judge us on several not to worthy people all our nation then we shall judge too all your nation on separate persons. Greetings from GREAT Russia! Придурки

    21. CrazyRussian says:

      oh yeah!!!
only our people can drive drunked on city streets for about 200 km/h with laughing chicks on a rear seats! 8)

    22. Not all russian drivers are same. Most of us drive smooth and carefull. But in Moscow too many cars and too many dumbhead people with money. It is normal to bribe any traffic control officer: any common violation will costs 20-50$ maximum, except VODKA - it will costs 1000-1500$. Have a nice day, придурки.

    25. grizzlybear says:

Don’t matter how bad roads are, how little mileage there is in Russia and the weather conditions, no.
Brainless people do not need to blame those factors.
These videos made me think how some people get their driving license or if there is a lottery that gives driving licenses as prizes…

    26. doug says:

I blame bad road design, not the drivers. No human is perfect, and ANY accident you see on video looks stupid, it does not matter what city. By definition, an accident is a mistake, not a smart action. So what?

The real problem I see in these videos is bad engineering. Whoever built the roads did not care about the driver.

**In one video, the cars collided because the separate lanes had NO painted stripes at all !

**In another video, drivers were FORCED to make a left turn against MULTIPLE lanes of traffic without a dedicated left-turn traffic signal. That is insanity because there will ALWAYS be blind spots.

**One video had an offset head-on collision because there was no concrete median barrier.

**Major intersections only had single traffic lights on a streetcorner, like a stop-sign. How can drivers see the traffic signal from a safe distance, if the signal is not high overhead? There was NOTHING overhead, not even signs! Therefore, on side streets, a driver could not even realize he is about to go through an intersection until it is too late. And on the inside lanes of the main street, the view of the signal may be blocked by other cars.

**Critical areas of the pavement should have been textured for traction in bad weather.

**No flow control. Congestion is a problem in any city, but there should always be a clear right-of-way.

      etc., etc…

    27. z says:

lol its like ‘guess the crash’ you just sit there whilst its loading trying to guess whats gonna happen - is a car gonna fly out of there get sideswiped and roll over? yes it is.

but really i agree with the poor roadbuilding quality, but some drivers are careless enough not to even use their mirrors or to even have a look, like that guy near the top in a black lada estate who got smashed into side on by a white car - he just hit the accelerator hoping to get out of the way quickly enough. they should improve driving tests big time. india has the same problem with driving tests. in india a driving test is driving 100 metres down a road a couple of turns and then another 100 metres and you get your licence. magically though they hardly ever seem to crash if youve seen any videos - they just all dodge each other somehow.

    28. Jerry says:

Video #4… Did that dipshit really just walk through traffic right into the path of a moving car?!? I haven’t seen anything like that since “Meet Joe Black”.

    29. thetrue says:

“Err, are you sure? Really, really sure?
What about all the hilly area?
      Chechnia, Georgia, Afganistan?”

Are you that dump? Just compare the “warlist” of the godless america, err sorry, “god bless america”. Yes, the differance is HUGE. Stop ignore it, Stop believe in US Propaganda. Use your brain.

    30. Dimitry says:

I can’t understand why you’re impressed with these videos. Ofcourse people there behave let’s say “little bit unusual”.
But just imagine how many videos of the stupid car crashes would be posted on RussianAmerica site if it esists)) And what about european motorways / autobahns with 200 car crashes? Or funny american snow driving on summer tires?

Russia is not the safiest place on earth, but stupid people are found everythere

    31. well, i think that there are crashes in every country. but the russian cars really suck, they should buy some european or japanese ones. but of course, there are much poor people in russia. (i’m not a racist.) So most of them can’t buy good cars :( Big numer of deaths on russian roads are usually cause of that. most of the new russian cars, lada, for example doesn’t have airbags. And that doesn’t make sense at all! why don’t they have? only new lada niva and lada kalina’s (119) got an airbag. and only in the steering wheel. and, next thing is that they don’t have the right crash tests. in EuroNcap they drive the cars to the wall at 60km’s per hour, but in russian crash tests they drive at 40kph. and that’s a problem too. They should do something for that :P sorry if i gotta bad english, i’m from russian’s neighbour country finland :P Things are well in here.

    32. Belarus says:

If you don’t know, getting drivers license (not buying it) in Russia is MUCH MUCH MUCH more difficult then in any european country or US.
I got 3 licenses: in Belarus and USA (Ohio and California).
USA drivers exam is for kids and those who over than 80.
      OHIO:
THEORY: 40 questions, 10 errors allowable - I’ve passed test just after answering 30 question. Meaning I did not made any single error in first 30 questions - that is a good measure of question difficulty
Driving: 5 mins in a city without any traffic at all. No any exercises.
Belarus: 10 questions - 1 error acceptable. Questions are MUCH MUCH more difficult comparing with USAs. And tricky.
Driving: 3 different excercices before going to city (comparing to no single one in US)
Any Russian driver capable to drive much better than one in US, but they simple don’t do this.
What really needs to happen is fines. For U-turn I made in US I have paid $170. For speeding 60 km/h above limit in Moscow I paid $2.
