An Abandoned Horror

strange abandoned place in Russia 1

Well, I have seen a lot of photos of abandoned places in Russia, but this one is something special. It looks like some unknown lifeforms have invaded the area after people abandoned it, or did they abandon because of the invasion has started?

What was this? It appears that it had something to do with sealife.

Babushka go suck your mother’s cock!

    3. impressive!

I just wonder if that was done in Soviet years or it was done by some maybe group of artists after the place was already abandoned.

in the first case it just will reinforce my belief that Russia inherently is suffering from bad taste! In the latter case the opposite - this is just cool. great idea. well done!

      • Aiwan says:

These thigs are surely from our soviet past. socialistic realism or something like that that style is called. Many resorts (most of) suffered from bad taste of arists and architects of ussr.
The one with octopus reminds me of Ctulhu….

      • Alright, now go back to you comment, read it really slowly, and tell me how you are contradicting yourself.

        • Well, got curious and actually did go back and read it. Found no contradiction.

          Want to explain?

          • “in the first case it just will reinforce my belief that Russia inherently is suffering from bad taste!” - this is generally a negative statement expressing your dislike for this kind of “art”. It is also a negative statement about russian people which implies - russians people have no taste.

“In the latter case the opposite - this is just cool. great idea. well done!” - Here you are clearly stating that you, in fact, like this kind of “art” by reinforcing your statement with words like “Well done” and “this is just cool”

            • I will not comment on your deductively inductive conclusions about my attitude to “russians people” and their tastes. We can talk about it some other time and I will let you impress me with brilliance of your mental abilities.

As of this particular case, you are for some reason ignoring fact obvious to nearly anybody else, that context, and especially spatially-temporal coordinates of a phenomenon can radically alter its meaning.

You can think of examples yourself or we can ask someone to do it for you.

So yes, I would dislike it in the first case and I would like it in the second case, and there is no contradiction.

      • sho? says:

are fucking dumb? read what you wrote.

this looks like an abandoned kindergarten.

i used to go to one like this just with a bit less eccentric architecture but just as wild.

        • I like abstract art. “Eccentric” and “wild”. What’s wrong with that?

          Don’t you like Salvador Dali?

Though, in Soviet times a lot of “art” was made by “decorating artists” (hudozhniki oformitely), who often lacked any systematic art education. But that often produced stunning results. ;)

    4. PumaElBusta says:

I would love to live a house like this ;] Right, maybe needs to be renewed

    5. First says:

      And you’re not.

    6. Russophile says:

The interior sculptures are nearly the exact same style of the ones found at a natural history museum that I visited a few years ago, so it is likely an aquarium or sea life museum.

    7. Visitor says:

Does anyone know what city this place is close to?

    8. Zsommand says:

      What? Why? Where? :)

    9. My bet would be it’s an aquarium or somesuch. I would also hazard a guess that it is somewhere in Abkhazia.

    10. Mixa says:

Come on it’s just a kindergarten in Chernobyl and all the toys mutated like that. Radiation you know…

    11. Kapycta says:

Wow, that kinda freaked me out! It looks pretty scary…

    14. vorthos says:

I love some of creative buildings in Russia. Stupid fucking communism screwed so much. Real shame.

    15. likely it was to become a people’s aquarium

    16. Alex says:

It was an aquarium, which was closed down. Not abandoned, just moved. It’s in Zelenograd, near moscow.

    17. bobwhite says:

Whatever this is it most certainly is not in “socialist realist” style. Socialist realism was about the life of the people and the party, not sea life.

    18. Texas1 says:

This might be where Zafarad lives with his alien friends.

      • Zafarad says:

Wrong,i am also an Alien man.i don`t want to live, where there already living another kind of Alien specie.this place is haunted by the souls of Stalin`s anti state elements.despite the my affiliation and love with Soviets,i would say that Soviets were not build long lasting buildings and monuments.they build buildings with cheap and low cost materials.one guy pointed that, due to not repair and lack of maintaining, these buildings are on the edge of collapse.but this argue is lay man excuse.after all the pyramids of Giza are still intact and looking very original.

    22. poyma says:

Who knew places like this existed. Im sure the Soviet authorities were a bit embarassed by places like this. Atleast in my experience, the ekskursavod never took us to one.
How cool, to have the marine theme echoed indoors. Those inside scultures must have been a bitch to keep clean.
