I’m not the one who started the discussion about diversity. I’m not the one who claimed that one contest is more diverse than another. I’m the one who DID point out the inaccuracy of the post I responded to. I did it with humor, but in response got a short little lecture-like comment on what diversity is.
As for diversity in “former soviet republics” . . . I am very familiar with it, but I don’t know what that has to do with this post, since this is about one specific Russian beauty pageant, and not “former soviet republics.” The diversity issue was raised by someone else, and I responded to it.
As for me being socially aware–one thing I’ve become very aware of over the last couple of decades is an informal international organization of people who, in an eager attempt to appear informed, literate, educated, funny, cool, righteous, etc., jump into conversations and inject information that is off-point, immaterial, and/or downright idiotic. Their concentrations used to be limited to certain bars, university dorms and common areas, and political conventions, but the internet has given the organization a greater reach into general society. I see that you are a card-carrying member of that club. Congratulations.

Since i am from neither, i must say, if i had to choose a side, I’d choose Russia because Americans are way too arrogant. If you ask any American what their roots are, they will say (in a cocky American accent) “I’m American”. Look at certain European countries. Sweden for instance has one of the LOWEST un-employment rates. This is achieved because every person is given FREE education…EVEN university.
Others have a “mandatory” military service (3-5 years usually), and then they have paid their debt to their country, and can carry on living prosperously.
Now Russia…..Granted, Russia has gone through it’s ups and downs over the centuries. But the people have always proven to be resilient and stuck through the hard times. Russia has MORE history in the last 100 years, than America has since it was established….yet Americans like to think that they are the center of the universe.
One great historical FACT that i always ask an American, when they are getting cocky and bragging about how good America is………”When you were taking History in school, did they remember to tell you the part about when the Canadians came down and burned down the White House?”
9 times out of 10, they will get all defensive and say that it never happened……but you know that as soon as they go home that night, they are on Google checking that shit out.

I once knew a Russian woman, and she told me horrible stories of the things that happened to her. It is not isolated, because the same thing happens to many Russian girls.
At a young age, 14 i believe, her family was SO poor, they couldn’t afford to feed their kids. Her and her older sister were “Sold” to an older business man, who used the girls as slaves. Often, when he had business partners over, the girls were forced to do horrible things to satisfy these men.
And THAT is why I support the Russian women, because after all their hardships, they continue to push on.
