      Friend of mine in St.Pete found her car the next morning with the front windscreen rubbers removed. The windscreen itself was put inside the car, undamaged.
      In her apartment building they also managed to steal the elevator-engines [12th floor] probably to be sold as scrap metal.

      If Russians would only use this type of ambition to set up a REAL business and pursue something GOOD and constructive, and use longterm vision there might still be hope for Russia…

      • Is it possible the Russian people you refer to (I will not use the word criminal, since that is the imposition of someone else’s “values,” based on their sense of “morality”) are simply using the only way they have to reach out to society in a cry for help? That is what the people in America do. It is their way of expressing their dissatisfaction with an unfair, unequitable society.

        Maybe the Russian president should do like we do in America, and blame ourselves for all the problems in each individual’s life. Then he should take more money from the honest people and pay for programs to counsel the people who are disaffected, and bring them into the mainstream of society.

        It is simply not their fault. It is “our” fault.

        There is no such thing as insurance-will-pay in Russia. The whole idea of ‘insurance’ is still in its infancy and in general Russian citizens don’t trust it and will not pay money for insurance unless it’s a compulsory thing. And they are right - it’s empirically proven every day. Insurance companies will always find a way to avoid paying you. And the legal system in Russia being what it is [not to be trusted/corrupted/expensive and exceptionally slow], you can kiss your money goodbye.

          If insurance comes reputable business and the image improves, it would do a lot good both for the company and the general public. Sale of new cars in Russia is booming and repair costs are high for a new car. A VAZ 2106 is a car that you can maintain and repair the engine, bodywork etc without much nuisance but a new 21st century car is something you won´t repair on your own.
          Still having a fancy new car that has wheel set that costs 5000 Euros, having no insurance is a big no-no. The wheels fit the old X5 (E53) and knowing how much posers and people with no moral standards drive these cars it´s no wonder they buy these wheels for the fraction of the cost from wheel-stealing bastards.

          Yes, there are real problems in America, as in any country, and there were stupid things done by the people in charge of the war in Iraq, and they should be held accountable for not taking care of soldiers.

          But, Fox News may encourage you to persevere, to have faith, to fight “the good fight,” and to keep your dreams. CNN will remind you that you are really a loser who needs government and elite media to tell you what is right and wrong.

          No, do not watch Fox News. It may encourage you to think for yourself, and then you may try to hold your government and media accountable.       The other issue is that either the society or any individual has full rights to defend its interests in any legal ways it choses to. Which is also natural. That is what the democracy and free choice is for.

Think of Enron or the current sub-prime mortage crisis in U.S. banking. Individuals seeking redress from corporate malfeasance have little chance against the enormous power of modern coporations. Such excesses erode confidence in the fairness of the economic system. The state is the only entity that can directly challenge corporate power. It must enforce regulation to maintain a balance of interests and thereby assure confidence.

      This spring I spent a day sitting in Copenhagen Airport waiting if I will be able to leave for Amsterdam or shall I sleep the night over in the lobby. Some of the Airport staff had gone on illegal strike. I was lucky to get aboard a plane staffed by Swedes instead of Danes. About 90% of other people were not that lucky and had to stay in the Airport for days. I saw a team of little African children crying, because they could not get home. A lot of people were desparate and suffering material and moral losses. Just because of some leftist trade union dickheads, who had suddenly decided “to fight for their rights” regardless of anything. Who will compensate to the people who suffered? No one! In a best case the “evil” COMPANY will pay some compensations! Of course not that gang of leftist jerks. Now talk about *social responsibility*. :)

    64. I believe you are refering to a wildcat strike by members of the CAU. The leadership of the Danish Cabin Attendants Union did not authorize the strike making it illegal. I do not know what the issues were, but in addition to the disruption you describe, such an action would almost certainly undermine negotiations. Most labor agreements require the company to recognize the union (i.e.representatives) as the sole bargaining agent for included employees. As such, the striking members would be acting on their own behalf and could be subject to discipline up to and including discharge. A strike is an action of last resort in contract negotiations. A wildcat strike is an act of desparation justifiable only in extreme situations such as safety.
