Making PC into Notebook

Russian engineers learned how to make rather compact notebook from a personal computer. All what you need is a reliable monitor. Now they want to put it in production.

Nice idea, but looking at the components I guess it would be a very noisy construction!
A nice idea, yes. As far as I know, the idea first came to market in 1984 when Apple launched the first Mac, although the PC in the photograph looks more like the slightly later all-in-one PowerMacs or the rather younger (but just as extinct) original CRT iMacs. Prior to then, the `all-in-one’ type of PC was built into the keyboard rather than the monitor (I’m talking about PCs in the broader sense - back before MS-DOS took over, there were lots of different sorts of PC). I expect that there was an `all in the monitor box’ PC prior to the Mac - but if so, I’ve not been able to track it down. Other firms followed Apple’s lead: Amstrad did a nice line in all-in-one jobs like that, launched in 1985.
So: nicely done, but an old idea.
btw, all CRTs can be discharged safely, but you do have to know what you are doing. Many are designed with bleeder resistors to discharge them when you unplug (can’t trust off switches any more; many of them are purely software affairs), but these resistors sometimes fail so you should always discharge manually - unless you’ve left the thing unplugged for several days and you’re feeling lucky. Those of us who have repaired old `compact’ Macs have had to find out about such things.
ever heard of HIGH VOLTAGE…?
not the safest experiment…
It’s not an experiment, they put a PC inside a monitor.
Yes, don’t try this at home. Monitors (even when they’re unplugged) have capacitors that can retain a high voltage charge for a long time after they’re turned off. Do not kill yourself, please.
That’s an LCD inside a CRT case, so there’s no high voltage, as far as I know.
Ummm…. the LCD backlight inverters are usually over 2000 volts….
Owned!
The problem is that the CRT itself is a capacitor: that’s where the troublesome charge is kept.
Lol… in mother russia, iMac makes you!
thats not a notebook
Jadni rusi vidi sta rade
Whoa! Case modding must be new to Russia!
Surely the title should be… “Making a notebook into a PC”
Anyway, it looks like they didn’t use a notebook at all, just a flat monitor and regular PC parts.
Nice project though…

Well considering Apple already did this, They would be infringing on patents. Not like anyone cares about that though.
Really, which patent would it violate?
E-Machines did that about 6 years ago and got sued by apple. It’s not good for business when you get sued for stuff that someone already makes.
That’s only when you produce something for sale.
Judging by the description… “Now they want to put it in production.”, I think there is an intent to sell.
If you believe every sentence written in an humoristic blog like this one you should look for psychiatric help.
Got any recommendations?
Necessity is the mother of invention! Alot of thought and time went into this..
I`am alive!!!!
Making monitor into iMac would have been a better title.
I don’t believe it.
Photoshop!!
Why You dont believe in so many simplest things?
Comments of Yours looks rather like sarcastic spam than real opinion.
Cool idea. Not much room for expansion/upgrades however.
thats not a notebook, nor was it ever, simply idiotic posting title, or mistranslation,
Wouldn’t the CRT be susceptible to all of the magnetism of the hard drive and other components?
Blind dumbass, that’s an LCD inside that case.
anton, he is not a rocket scientist, he is an economic guru among other things.
My fault. I glanced at it and thought it had one of your famous Russian tubes.
Russian iMac!
This is a dumb idea, why would someone want to to get something like that, when you can get a real laptop
Dumbest Idea ever, in this days people want smaller things what get that when you can buy a real laptop o.0
I still prefer CRT’s to the new fangeled devices.
Nice idea! In Kazachstan, that is my country, i want to import this jewel of technolodgy. Like the compact computer only need room for the screen. Wow like this invention. Please send me contact information for import at: futurtechnology@import kz
Nice experiment. I can’t figure why ya’ll laughing? Someone had an old pc from office. And just suggested to make smthing funny just for experiment… Nice stuff. I can bet noone from this site can make something better. You can only laugh and post stupid comments. Wankers.
Way cool… An iPC.
And it’s upgradeable… Truly ingenious.
If it was for sale here in Israel, I would buy one of those
прикольная штука
SOO GREAT
SO SMART
u r all stupid as to not see the genius.
It’s teh confort and teh wins i always look for
Nice construction indeed………………

That’s really cool. Makes me want to convert a dying old CRT and a busted craptop I have into something useful.
This is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen. The all-in-one Macs were genius, because when they started using LCDs they didn’t keep the big clunky CRT cases! That’s the whole point of having an LCD. Not to have that big piece of crap on your desk.
Hahahaa! When are they coming out. i want 3 of those ASAP!!!!
