Weird Russian Tuning and Car Modifications
You can meet these strange cars in the streets of Russia and the former Soviet republics. Most of them were produced in the USSR, and most likely, Soviet engineers could not even think about such fate of these vehicles. But some of them are tuned very nicely.

Well, we had a discussion about Chavs or “Gopniks” in the previous post, so this would be just the right time to discuss the types of “cars” that these people normally drive, or at least attempt to.
I can say with certainty that the majority of these modded cars are most certainly any Chav’s or Gopnik’s dream!
That is an interesting subculture. We don’t have anything quite like it here in the US.

That Moskvich (black) “JBO-743″ is in Finland. Amazing fast bastard. Original engine.. Two turbos.. I’m not sure but I think there is about 600-700hp…
Bull. No way in hell you can squeeze 600 hp from the original 1500 cc 75 hp fourbanger (a copy of 1962 BMW 1500 engine, to be sure, accounting for the usual Russian metallurgy), turbos or not. It would grenade itself on the first crank. Even for the original BMW that would be a stretch.
I think it could. There are 4 banger dragsters putting out 700+bhp, and GM Racing has a Sunfire that’s pushing 850-900hp.

I called to owner of that Moskvich and he told there really is the original engine. Not a copy of BMW. Aluminium.. Twin-turbo, over 600hp, turbo pressure about 4 kilos!!! Rear axel is from Toyota Hiace. Quarter mile 9,7 sec…

Except that the original engine IS a copy of BMW. And I would totally believe that a fourbanger could put out 600 hp, but not the original Moskvich kind.

One day I will drop an American 350 v-8 into a 71-72 Lada Zsiguli and put in a new trans and rear axle to handle the power. 350 is 5.7 liter engine. 5700cc

also some works of genius ingenuity… plenty time and effort spent trying to conjure something from nowt…
that said… I am rather taken with the idea of getting hold of one of those old round-light Ladas and doing a proper job on it… slammed, smoothed, new running gear, nackers well and truly tuned off…
people knock these cars, but i like them, and there’s nowt wrong with individuality & wanting to do something a bit different.

Just a shortened subcompact. It has been cut in half, then the cabin reduced to 2-seater dimensions and welded back together. Planning and metalworking skills would be needed for success in such a project. Do it right, the result has as much horsepower as before, but now the car is a few hundred kilos lighter and quicker to steer. Unless you did it with an old VW bus, the successful result is a serious redneck sports-car. It looks like this one was done acceptably well. Best regards.
