Yes, they make Sci-Fi movies in Russia too. And it looks something like on those shots. The movie is called “The Populated Island”.

Yes. That was good. But it would not be comprehensible outside the “Perestroika” context. If you take it separately - it is trash. If you take it in that context - it rulez!

Обитаемый остров could be better translated as “Liveable planet”, but IMDB calls it The Inhabited Island
Neah. “Livable planet” sounds more like a planet where a life is possible. “Inhabited island” should be more correct as this is an opposite to “uninhabited planet”…
Sorry, I meant ‘habitable’ (and island instead of planet indeed) but ‘inhabited’ is also correct according to multitran (and ‘manned’ and ‘mannable’), but in the context I guess it would be ‘inhabited’ then.
Maybe the unlivable movie theater if one has to sit through it.

It is based on similar called SF-book, which in English was translated in 1977 as Prisoners of Power

There was this rather good novel by Strugackies brothers with this same name.
Strugackies did write well. Do you agree, those who have read their stuff?

I think they will spoil the book. Sci-fi isn’t the best type of film to be made in Russia.

The SciFi channel actually uses some 3D animation/FX. This movie looks to cheesy to even use that.

Agree to some of the poster in that I am afraid too that the low budget will cause dire consequences for the visual looks of the movie.
If they are not going to add a lot of computer generated special effects (which I would not be so sure about - Night Watch used a lot of them and it was cool!) the looks will be poor.
This has been seen in other Soviet/Post-Soviet films which would have been great but were adversely affected by the lack of funds and thus rather amateurish looking inventory.
We can just wait and see.
