I don’t think the USA was ALWAYS a threat to world peace (really– was the USA a threat to world peace back in 1807, for example? Nor was it a threat in 1907, or 1937, but since 1945. . . well, maybe. But so was the USSR, so they balanced each other out, and the USA was really not a threat to world peace until George w. Bush took power, did Clinton threaten world peace? I know many slavs are angry about NATO getting involved in the balkans in the 1990’s, but somebody had to do something, the Serbs were being unreasonable, and that area is much better off now).

But the property prices are certainly the most expensive in the world, and no where in the world are going to see that amount luxury cars. The difference between rural Russia and Moscow is unthinkable!

Hi, I like very mush your blog, it has some quite nice/interesting pics.
But I have one constructive critic to your blog. I lack some comments to the pics. For example in these photos we can see a huge amount of old-fashined or abandoned sovet-era equipment, also many cyrilic signs on the walls or the equipment itself, but there isn´t any clue about what it means or what kind of thing we are watching.
Also just acomment, it´s interesting to see the lack of electronics/computerized equipment in the old military abandoned places.

I wouldn’t call this old-one of the date codes said 1994.
Any equipment made in the USSR looks like it’s 30-50 years old-for example, I once posted pictures of the inside of a 1988 TV, and people thought it was a WW2 military radio. Even records/documents/forms were printed using old-fashioned printing presses-the quality was absolutely horrible, (comparable to the late 1800s)-the text, lines were all bent and typewritten on what would seem to be a brown paper towel. Even photographs from 1994 were still in black and white.

Digital equipment back then was scarce, and all computer/calculator ICs were reverse-engineered, impossible to get, extremely expensive, unreliable, and outdated. Plus they were very sensitive to EMP. Because of this, most (if not all) electronics had discrete transistors and sometimes even vacuum tubes (and I’m only talking about 1980-1990).
