Glazastik. The New Internet Hero
Russians like to make internet stars from amusing or extraordinary people seen in mass communication media. For example, for some period of time such a star was Chumazik (Dirty-Faced Fellow), a drunken factory worker. The video with this guy was a true hit in 2005 across Russian part of Internet.
That was three years ago. But here is another story, the new one. During the press conference of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, that took place on G8 summit, some young man started to throw out propaganda leaflets. This incident became very popular in the Russian part of the Internet. The reason of such popularity is neither the actions of the young activist, nor the smart reaction of the Mr. President. The reason was the man sitting in the conference hall (you can see him on the picture above). They called him Glazastik (Big-Eyed Guy). Below you can see the short video of this incident - see the guy with strange eyes behind the guy with leaflets, clear at 00.58 of the video. After the video was spread around Russian Internet many photoshopped versions of him appeared, we also include them here.

How come that guy throwing papers said something in Russian then Putin started saying something to him in German?
Because Putin worked many years as KGB-agent in germany (dresden) und speaks german very good, but normaly in official events he speaks only russian, just for representation as russiaÄs head.
Yes I was aware that Putin speaks fluent German, I just didn’t realise the young man had said anything in German so was a bit confused why Putin would reply in German. Seems the young man throwing papers did say something in German after all which is why Putin responded in the same language.

At first the guy throwing papers said “Putin ist ein Schwein” (Putin’s a jerk) or something similar - maybe that’s one reason Putin adressed him in German and a reason for the paper throwing guy speaking Russian is that in the former GDR people had to learn Russian and on some schools they taught Russian after the reunification as well.
A pity the Russian media translated putin so loudly one could not even hear what Putin was saying in German.
Yeah fair enough. I didn’t catch the German comment by the young man at first. The translation was loud indeed, I only just caught the German then quickly rewound to find out what Putin said (I speak German but not Russian).
Presumably the video was in Heiligendamm so the young man may have been a German or a Russian - who knows.

G8 Summit was in Germany. Kid was German. Said something in German… thus illiciting a response in German.

I live in Sweden, but in many cases I support Putin. Russia could, in 50 years or so be one of the last white countries. The rest of Europe will be filled with muslims, and where there arent muslims there will be yugoslavian, turk and gipsy territory (how do you spell those shit countries?)…

First of all, no Im not a “russian nationalist”. Ive been a Swedish citizen for all of my life, but Ive travelled alot. Ive been to some Russian cities several times and Im aware of the problems of Russia.
However you dont seem to be aware of the problems of Sweden, and EU. It will be trouble when you “import” millions of muslims every year. Only in Sweden there is 100,000 immigrants each year, mainly muslims. The difference between Russia and Sweden is that we feed the immigrants, due to our too genereous welfare system. The result of this is that we get flooded by people who cant, or doesnt want, to work. You guys dont do that, the muslims have to work if they wanna live, driving taxi or whatever.

This is the reality of contemporary Sweden. 90% are unemployd in one suburb. Sweden was succesful but are now only multicultural. Thats really sad.

It’s true, the living standards of the immigrants have definitely been raised (and much of that has been the point of our immigration and refugee initiatives), but you’d be hard-pressed to say that the living standards of Canada have been lowered as a result. I live with multiculturalism every day–at work, in my neighbourhood, in my family and among my friends. I am delighted that I live this way, and have been exposed to many interesting and enjoyable cultural, educational, political and spiritual viewpoints and experiences as a result.
Maybe you should come here, Andreas, and try to figure out why multiculturalism has been such a success here and such a failure , according to you, in Sweden.

There is no yugoslavia anymore, now there are Croatia,Bosnia,Slovenia and Serbia.
Except from bosnia that used to be under turks for a long time and has a lot of muslims, in croatia, slovenia and serbia there are very litle muslims.
I mix them simply cuz they’re the ones who are the trouble here in Sweden. Ask any Swede and they will mention the muslims (i.e. Iraqis, north-Africans and so on), the “former” Yugoslavian and the gipsys.
Actually, several things to mention
Pretty much all of the Balkans were under Turkish rule at one point.
Yugoslavians, all of them, would probably be considered ‘white’, wether Serbian, Croatian or Bosian-Herzegovinan.
Religions are mixed. Bosnia-Herzegovina is mostly Muslim, Serbia and Montenegro are mostly Serbian, and Croatia and Dalmatia are mostly Catholic…. but, there are religious minorities all across the region, including atheists, Protestants and Jews… so not ALL Serbians are Orthodox, etc.
Western Europeans are, by and large, bigoted against the Orthodox-Turkish influenced cultures of Eastern Europe. I mean, seriously, thats what its really about whether we’re talking about Serbs, Hungarians, Turks, Russians, Ukranians, Poles, Latvians or whatever.

I find it amusing that you single out the fact that there are ‘no muslims’ in Russia, when (by CIA fact site estimates) there are 21-28 million muslims living there, making up 15-20% of the population and constituting the largest religious minority. While many people dispute that this was perpetrated by Lugovoi, and hence by extension, ordered by the Kremlin, they are ignoring an important fact; the amount of polonium-210 used to poison Litvinenko would have cost over $10 million, and requires serious nuclear infrastructure such as a particle accelerator or nuclear reactor, the like of which no individual has access to.

I think the main Europe problem are misunderstanding what kind of people they want to have as immigrants. Look on Canada: The really understand what nationalities may leave in harmony with the english-french-ukranian-… people mix what they have now.
Close you boundaries while you decide this problem. Get out muslims extrimistss or any kind extrimists. If any madman burn house and paralize normal life get him to Turkey, Lebanon our other country from which he come from. Immigrants must know state Language Sweden or may be Finnish (as I know you have two languages).
You really have two ways: teach muslims kids or get all of them out except may be 5%. They must be more Swedish or getting out. Hey, man, my respect to you, bro. What is this whole site about? Biassed gays yell the loudest, the ignorant have the air of authority and plain dickheads try to teach us to live. I knew their news sources were preconceived but i didn’t realize people there believe all those rediculous lies so willingly. It’s funny to be told I never saw real freedom while i always have been totally free able to do and say what i want. In general, most of you guys (and gays) should spend some time doing some studies of at least a couple sources of information other than pre-paid bullshit multipliers before you apprach places where you can be heard by other humans cause you make urself look pathetically stupid.

Face it there are problems in every country and it’s good that we can have an open discussion here. But some of you are really just plain old stupid. Please don’t be ignorant and say that in Russia there are no and were no problems. The facts speak for themselves. Don’t be a dick and say that multiculturalism in other European countries do not create any problems because they do.
The question is how u deal with it… My personal opinion is you take the good with the bad. If crimes are commit, no matter who did them (black, white, muslim, christian) people should be punished. I learn a lot from my multicultural friends and i love it.
It’s sad that some people here want to go back to Stalin/Hitler times. Sad for them because they are people with a brain the size of a peanut and miss out a lot of the world.

First of all i think that swearing accusing someone else being stupid and so on, proves the stupdity of its own. Wether you black red green or purple, any color or religion, does not matter. Its the personality that counts.
Secondly. Its easy to say that multicultutral society has a fututre when you close your borders so heavily that no one can enter. To get a permit to live in most countries (USA, Canada, Auwtralia, South Africe) you must or have a lot of money to enter so that you can support yourself or get a working permit that the state can allways revoce. At my company i employed 5 engineers from 3 different countries and all are good employees. But it was hard to get them in the USA. Multicultural societies work only if you protect your labour markets at least a bit. Finally i whish everybody a nice life in a peacefull world (lets hope for it).
I assume the Stalin-Hitler part refers to me cuz one could trace some allusions in part of my words and would basically be right, at least as far as the former is concerned. (Let’s pretend there was no sarcasm in my previous posts. I made just a couple and noticed there was another Alex on this thread. I am the bad one). It amazes me again and again how some folk are so assured of their knowledge of the past and the present of the country they just read about or, at best, quickly toured. What do you guys know about Stalin, or totalitarism, or oppression in Russia? Did you experience it back then or do now? Do you personally know the authors of the crappy history books and articles you’ve read? Are they decent, trustworthy people? How many Russian words do the Russia bashers on your TV know? Are they totally independent and objective and thinking? Do they use facts or rumours? Or may be they just read somebody else’s agendas? Look, all my adult life I’ve worked with foreigners coming to Russia and I haven’t met a single person whose knowledge and perception of Russia and its real problems hadn’t been crippled and perverted buy mass media. You speak about the western free press but it proves to be freak press time and again. I was born during the rise of communism, grew up when it was falling, went to University when Russia was searching a new way, got married and started to work when it became a capitalist jungle and now, having been around the block a while and experiencing life in Russia in a couple of its forms and knowing some of its people of all ages and circles to an extent, I think i have a right to say i have a little better knowledge of this country then most of you. Having no intention to defend Russia (I can see no guilt in the first place), but out of compassion for your ignorance (no offence), i say to you: you are much more wrong then right. You think that we have problems with some things not understanding that the vast majority of Russians don’t consider them problems because they don’t give a damn for THE things themselves. Don’t apply your standards to us cos we are entierly different. We are white, but we have entierly different mentality and values, better values, believe me. Many of us still don’t know how to live and how to behave cos they were taught to be honest, sincere, compassionate, straightforward, have ideals, help your fellowman, share, respect parents and elders, be law-obedient, you know, that kind of stuff. These qualities make you starve in the jungle. Russia may seem oppressed for the eyes of a westerner, but believe me I’ve lived here all my life and there wasn’t a single moment when i felt even the slightest oppression. If TV is all you rely on, then you are truly oppressed, no matter where you live. So just remember: when it comes to Russia, don’t believe ANYONE. Better ask a Russian what the deal is. Not me of course, I discredited myself enough by being a patriot and in the modern world it’s too bad a sin - to speak positively of Russia. Try to understand one thing – Russia is hated, slandered, put down, and confronted not because it is evil but because it’s good, way too good. And it wants to be rich, strong and independent again. These are its baddest, unforgivable sins. That is why you get a picture you used to get and will always be getting.

As for the crazy Swede, I say “Hej!”. Underneath the bigotry is a shred of truth. Stockholm is becoming like many other large cities, in that there are many poor migrants living there, and they are not blending in, culturally. His country is evolving to something other than what it has been. Much of the USA is like this as well, as more Hispanic influence comes every year. Most people have no problem with these changes, as it has always been evolving, but many are angry over the new folks breaking social services systems while not paying into it. US citizens do fear more of the extremists will move to the big cities, and blow up their brain-washed dumb-asses, like they have taught their children to do for generations. We humans are such idiots.
The Russian comments are also very entertaining. Russia is not as rich, and not as free as he makes it sound (he’s probably one of the thieves who you must bribe on the highway). As they might say in Poland “Dupa!”.

I think this is the next big challenge we have as a race - working out how to live in harmony in what is becoming more of a melting pot of very different and occasionally incompatible cultures.
I would suggest the following ideas to address this:
- Have limits on immigration from each country - each country has a quota of people able to move from that country - then you dont have one huge influx from a single region banding together and isolating itself from the host country.
- Strict background checks - ex convicts, people with a history of violent behaviour etc should not be let in.
- 3 year probation period - when someone gets asylum or work visa etc they should be on probation - any anti social behaviour or criminal activity - zero tolerance - you’re out.
Its easy to be airy fairy politically correct and say these would be draconion measures etc etc but the point is there is an issue with failed immigration policies in many western countries - you can either ignore it and pretend it doesnt exist and that we all live in carebear land - or accept the harsh reality of the situation and try to put measures in place that ensure that we as a society can grow and adapt to change and embrace cultural diversity but at a rate which is digestible, manageable and will not cause more harm than good in the long run.
