Children of the war. They may be smiling but it’s scary. What childhood they had, how young they were to see the nightmares of the war and to give their lives with no hope for future. These boys were even more brave than many adult men of today who beat their chests and say many words.

    These photos say more about the adults that allowed this, than it says about the children.

      Sorry, baby, but all these children were orphans, their parents and relatives were killed by germans, their homes (villages, towns) destroyed by germans. They were small but nobody forced them to join Red Army. Actually they were like “son of regiment” and adults tried to take care about them and protect their lives as much as they could.

    Soviet Union was friends with Nazi-Germany for a period and here we can see just why…

      Soviet Union were last country who made pact with Germany (after Great Britain, France, Poland). Soviet Union made this pact only after western countries refused to mace sach pact with SU. And besides, it is righteous thing to make pact to postpone the war and to get back the territory, occupied by poles in 1920.

    One wonders what their post war life was like? War is brutal, and hard on many adults, but children are psychologically less capable of processing the horror they witnessed.
