Soviet People Celebrating Christmas

No, of course it wasn’t called Christmas. They renamed it and moved it some days away – the winter holiday was now called New Year, but the tree was still present and decorated. There were also presents and a big meal.

There’s a joke in Russia – the only place Jewish or Muslim people celebrate Christmas is in Russia (no matter which faith he is). Muslim people decorate New Year trees as well.
