Ten best tank crews compete for the right to represent the Eastern Military Region in the tank biathlon championship of Russia. Blogger smit-smitty shares the images of the tank relay that was held on March 3rd.

Participants of the competition are twenty tanks T-72B3, crews from Primorsky, Zabaikalsky regions, Buryatia, Amur and Sakhalin regions.

The participants overcame one of the most difficult tracks in Russia – 7 km full of barriers, fired from behind flanks to hit three targets while moving.

T-72? Really? Still running that antique crap around and burning fuel in tons?

LOL. Your Abrams tank is from the same decade. Tell your Pentagon to invest in another Tank. I suppose that’s why you’re so upset here.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. The first T-72 from the 70s was crap, but it was seriously reworked and updated several times. The T-72B from 1980s was a serious tank. It had most of the tech from the more expensive T-80, but without the turbine engine. In the 1990s T-72 was updated again, but the new version was called T-90. The biatlon is using T-72B3, which is made basically by taking an old T-72B and rebuilding it using the newest tech from the T-90 tanks.

These are so heavily loaded with applique, ablative, and possibly reactive armor, the performance must be severely degraded.

And nobody would do that unless the junk was completely vulnerable to standard anti-tank weapons.

You should now, “liptonius”. Your Abrams tank is from the same era… and is the only competitive thing you have. I understand it has been ‘upgraded’ probably more times…
      You’re a funny kid.
