11 Secret Russian Helicopter MI-10PP

Secret Russian Helicopter MI-10PP

Posted on January 2, 2015 by tim

Only two of these helicopters have survived until now – they are huge Russian transport helicopters, MI-10PP.

This particular helicopter could not only transport cargo inside its body like many other transport aircraft do, but the load could be placed outside between its four tall “legs”. Let’s see the photos and videos in detail!

This is what it looked like. Here it is, already used as a monument in the Khabarovsk region in 1987.  You can see a person near it – so it’s pretty huge – see how big its propeller was – they needed such a big propeller to be able to lift heavy loads.

Here is the same aircraft.

However, there was another use for this helicopter that was not reported by the mainstream media of the Soviet Union. The ability of this helicopter to transport huge objects was behind the creation of a huge “box” weighing 7 tons. What was inside this box? A whole set of electronic equipment that was used to jam any type of radar or communications around it. So the name of this helicopter was MI-10PP where PP stood for “Postanovshik Pomekh” – or “Jam Setter”.

It’s pity that none of them have survived in flyable condition.

However, two of them can still be found in museums.

Many of them were “utilized” or simply destroyed.
