21 Russian Legendary Bikes URAL

Russian Legendary Bikes URAL

"Ural" is a brand of Russian motorbikes, which has recently become a sort of cult in the USA for some reason. Basically, this is probably the only consumer automotive technology being imported into the States, and they say that even Brad Pitt has one. Why are they so popular its hard to say, but what is obvious is that this make and model has not been changed since the 50s or 60s, at least visually, and maybe that's what attracts the customers. In Russia, they cost
a fraction of how much they are being marketed for in USA, and this is why: a lot of top notch Western components are being used in those "Soviet" machines: Marzochi, Sanchs, Denso, Ducati, Yuasa, Brembo, etc - all those brands are used to assemble the bikes that now only visually remind us of their Soviet fathers. And here is someone has visited the URAL factory in the town of Irbit, which is in Ural mountains. Here we have it:

Russian Surfers at Pacific in Ice Cold Water

Please look outside of your window. Is it cold on this Christmas day? Would you like to take your wetsuit and go surfing? Probably not if you live in Europe or most of USA. However, these Russian guys stay in much more severe weather conditions and still go surfing. Remember a few days ago there was a posting about frozen Korean ships arriving at Vladivostok? Even the ships were covered with a thick layer
of ice, and they were photographed at almost the same location as these surfer guys, on almost the same day. So it's really ice water there. You see - even in the first photo, there is snow covering mountains near the shore. Want to see more of these surfers? Yuri, the blogger, has visited them on the shore and took the photos and the story from them.  See details inside:

Most of our abandoned posts come from Russia and not many from other Soviet republics, even Ukraine, one of the largest ones, doesn't often send us pictures of abandoned stuff. This time a Moscow urban explorer, Sam Namos, while he was traveling to Ukraine has visited a local abandoned

3 Russian Shawls

Russian Shawls

Russian shawls are sort of like headscarves but they are not usually being worn on the head, but rather wrapped around the body, both in colors or single toned warm woolen ones. If to quote wiki this is something like: "A shawl is a simple item of clothing, loosely worn over the shoulders, upper body and arms, and sometimes also over the head. It is usually a rectangular or square piece of cloth, that is often folded to make a
triangle but can also be triangular in shape. Other shapes include oblong shawls." Also wikipedia says the shawl is popular in India and Iran as well as Russia. However, in Russia there is a whole tradition of shawls, and if you are to look at old historical photos of Russian women they sometimes wear them. Here we have some photos from their production and also Russian ladies wearing them.
