Soviet magazine “Ogonyok” or “little fire” was pretty much the “Times” of the Soviet epoch and featured some of the best Soviet photography of the time. So here are a few photos from the “Ogonyok” archives showing Soviet people either preparing or celebrating New Year.

    The photo where a family decorates a New Year tree reveals how small apartments of the Soviet people were.
    The room on the photo does not have any furniture except a sofa, still the people are packed like sardines.

    It is a small room, however you should see how small Japanese houses can be.
    Thanks for this post, it is really good to see how people lived & thought of themselves in the Soviet Union.
