26 Trip to the Underground Moscow Nuclear Shelter

Trip to the Underground Moscow Nuclear Shelter

Posted on November 8, 2014 by tim

Mikhail and some of his friends went down into the one of the Moscow nuclear shelters prepared for emergency in case someone pushed the Red Button. That is a huge shelter which seats 2,700 people and can also hold cars. It’s over 2,000 square meters in area. Do you want to see what is inside – we can show you thanks to the photos and stories he brought from there.

So here is the entrance. The shelter itself is underground, 6.50 meter deep. Now some parts of the building is used as a warehouse.

Huge hermetically sealing doors.

Just look at how thick they are.

Entering the shelter. As you can see it can host cars and vans.

A map of the local neighborhood with all the shelters marked so that they know where to run to when NATO starts to bomb. Or ISIS.

The commander of the shelter reports on what’s going on.

And those are the employees of the shelter.

And the visitors.

And the medics from a local hospital who are responsible for this shelter.

Those are called “civilian gas masks”

Anti nuclear radiation costumes are in stock here, too.

Those guys are like from a movie.

This gadget is called “a device for radioactive and chemical scouting”. It probably tests the air and says if its safe yet or still not safe after the bombings.

These are the radioactivity meters.

I don’t get why you always try to make NATO and Americans look evil when clearly in history its Russia and the Soviet Union that tried to start wars and got caught using spies in the west 90% of the time. I’m just saying…
    I’m not American I’m French…

    • PK says:

And just how many war’s did Russia start (in comparison to US) ??? Too much CNN ?
Srsly, mate you need to work on your history…

      • Pom2Ter says:

I said that tried to start wars… I didn’t say that started… but in all that they are the one always pushing with their nuclear policies and after they blame the US… after all Stalin, Khrushchev and Putin are the ones pushing toward war…

      • e=mc2 says:

Idiot. usa = terrorists. nato = noth atlantic terrorist organization.

      • Pom2Ter says:

If it wasn’t about NATO your terrorist would have taken back Ukraine back long ago… and probably more than half the ex soviet states as well so stop crying like a baby because NATO is stopping you from doing war crimes against those free countries that are now part or becoming part of Europe…

If you think it might rain, you put on a raincoat. Meanwhile in the U.S., civil defense has always been a joke.

  3. Vijay says:

Good preparation. Hope that all these shelters will not have to be used. Will pray for all there.

  4. Muzzlehatch says:

The “horrible thing” is used in mouth to mouth resuscitation without risking skin contact.

  5. SSSR says:

There will always be wars everywhere when there are humans on planet earth! Is the doomsday clock on 12:00 yet?

  6. Col says:

What you have to remember is that the USA is the only country to have used nuclear weapons. I can see now why the Russians acted as they did during the cold war. Call it paranoia but if you were at school with a bunch of kids and one of them was famed for fistfights and another because he had used a shotgun on someone who was friends with the fist fighter, more than once, who would you be most wary of?
I feel as if I was covertly indoctrinated with the belief that Russia was a bad place. I am British, Lord knows how bad the American kids were misguided from 3 years old?

    • Alain says:

The US may have been able not to use their nuclear weapons on Japan. But who knows how many GI may have died because of this. “A la guerre comme à la guerre”, as we say in French. Beside this, you may remember Russia has tested the biggest nuclear weapon in the world. What for ?

Russia is not a bad place in se. Neither are the US. Both have been guided by bad presidents (Bush in the US, Putin in Russia). Even Sarkozy in France or Blair in the US were bad. Does it make France or UK bad places ? Certainly not. Does it mean Bush, Putin, Blair and Sarkozy should be sent to the ICJ ? Definitely yes…

      • MAXDMG says:

Why Putin bad president? Bad prezident always drunk Boris Yeltsin, Putin on my opinion know how rule country. But for USA and NATO better Yeltsin and doomed russian economic in 90s.

        • Alain says:

Putin is as bad as Eltsin. Just another way. Yeltsin started to steal Russia’s wealth to his family’s benefit. Putin continues, with violence…

If Putin was a good president, he would work on upgrading the country (water and electricity everywhere, decent roads and EVERYbody pays his taxes). Unfortunately he does not, and Russia is, on some parts of its territory, not better than the most backwards African countries…

  7. Yevgeny says:

Putin is just another czar. Filling his pockets and making Russians believe that he is working for them, restoring their pride. Meanwhile Putin wears $45.000 watches of Patek Philippe, buys Western yachts for $45 million and builds a $50 million villa on the Black Sea coast. Who do you think is paying for all that?

That is right. The people. Putin is just another corrupt thug.

    • Alain says:

I wish he had been honest, because he could have been a great leader for the country. Unfortunately, he is not honest, liar, as thief as Yeltsin (maybe even more) and now warmonger, while the country still waits for descent roads. Just a shame…

  8. Yevgeny says:

Ah! So comments critical of Putin are now being removed from this website, eh? Admission that Putin is indeed the new czar; Russians fear him, even the Russians running this website. Sad, very sad.

    • Yevgeny says:

Oh, no. Wait. It wasn’t, sorry. It’s still awaiting moderation. But the comments did not load/show… Hmmm. Very strange. Must have been a technical problem.

      • Alain says:

I had some time ago the same problem. The moderator takes time before publishing the comment, but to day seldom remove them…
