TU-154 Transported by Ground

When the plane can’t fly but needs to be moved, it hits the roads. Not an easy task for a big TU-154 passenger plane. This colored plane belonged to a Russian regional airline and it seems that their plane not needed now and needs to be moved somewhere else. To see how they did it, look inside.

So, first they removed the wings, obviously.  Those are the places they were mounted.

Then, the body of this plane, a TU-154 jet, consists of a few parts that can be dismounted from each other. This is the front most part loaded on the truck. You can see the seats.

And they don’t take the seats out.

Because the plane’s body is round they make those angled supports.

This is not a regular TU-154, it’s a radioactive one. No, I’m joking, it’s not a regular one but it’s a TU-154M – M stands for “modified”. The first planes of this type were built in 1984 and they were more effective than regular TU-154. Actually 30% more energy efficient (Soviet engineers cared about the fuel economy, too!).

Now they tie the body down onto the trailer by using belts.

Some other parts of the plane to be transported.

And that’s the crane they used to perform the task. Just a regular construction crane. A bit dirty, though.

Now loading a tail part on to the Mercedes truck.

For a moment this pic gave me the impression that the Mercedes truck had an oversized jet engine on its back.

And here is the middle part with the wings.

Now all mounted and ready to go!

Do you want to know where the plane went to? The author, Andrey, says the plane went to a Novosibirsk Rescue Services training camp – a special department in Russia which goes to large emergencies.

Thanks to Andrey for the photos!

Andrey, says the plane went to a Novosibirsk Rescue Services training camp…
So that means that some parts of plane will be used in static display for training purposes.
