Wonderful Russian engineering!! I hope they are able to make a LOT of these, give the NATO Empire something to worry about. Cost? Awful! But check out what the American enemy spends on IT’S military. Actually, this manufacturing quality was superior in Soviet times too, as a result, partly, of
very good educational standards and requirements, which goals Russia must maintain to survive.

Most (All) of the machinery in the pictures what the plane is made use of it, is of the Western origin. The same is for CAD/CAM software used by Sukhoy engineers and developers. The same is for plane’s avionics, where latest Western FPGAs, DSPs, CPUs, buses and architectures are used.

Still anybody hesitates it is inevitable to cut the Russia from the Western resources. Maybe it is too late now …

      • AlienTech says:

And who discovered stealth techonology and who stole it.. The west created DSP’s.. But who created algebra.. Heck if it were not for the ayrabs, you would not have a CPU as it would be missing the 0.

You’ll find that no real advances were made by Islam itself. It was always advances made by the conquered peoples for the first 100 years or so after submission. After that, most innovation died. Algebra and zero came from Indian mathematicians and discovered by Europeans through Islam.

          • el jefe says:

Why is there always concerns about the discoveries when what is more important is the creation. A discovery does not entitle you as the creator so having said that, be it European, Persian, Islam, Indian or Egyptian, the algorithm of Mathematics just like science, religion, invention, innovation and best yet, civilization itself should never be claimed or to be acknowledged as the discoveries made by a single region or race or any part of the world, rather it should be known as advancement of the humankind as 1.

F-15 even 40 years on, and the F-22 will eat it for lunch.

    • aw says:

Stealth technology have a Big Drawback.
And that is “Low-frequency radar”, as Already proven in 1999 Serbia war (Kosovo).
Modern Russian “Low-frequency radars” easily Catch F-22 Squadrons over Alaska :)
So if F-22 isn’t Stealth, and is Less maneuverable, have a Radar with Shorter range ,compared to Su-35 (400Km range).
F-22 lack of IRST (infra-red search and track) Air to Air system.
Su-35 have a better air to air Missiles with a 300Km range.
And F-22 must be maintained for 30 Hours after every 1 hour of Flight!!!
      F-22 is Big White Elephant.

1999 Serbia War? That was a F-117, the dynamics have changed a bunch. I’d still bet the F-15 which is undefeated in over 30 years, could easily take down anything out there. It’s more than just the machine. It’s the tactics. The USAF trains to win, after being startled by the beginnings of the Vietnam war, and they continue to train to WIN.

They never had real opponent, they fought against not properly serviced planes. Sample is against Yugoslavia, they fought against mig 29, they had number advantage, and migs were old, with old used parts, not updated, and without ammunition and missiles (because of years of sanctions), never had fight with proper opponents.

    Great posting

Russia cannot produce descent and economical passenger planes which could compete with Airbus or Boeng planes.

On a engineering level pretty awesome aircraft. and one the most attractive aircraft out there.I don’t like what it represents. But it is one of my favorite aircraft in the looks, and performance spectrum.

  7. john says:

Hey where the heck do i get a poster from ,for that air craft.

  8. MattNSW says:

Andy, I think you need to research what happened last time Russia tried to outspend America’s military. Hint: it was in the late 1980’s.

Some great photo’s here, lucky guy for getting in there.

  9. phill says:

    awesome photos!

Dont forget the cost for NATO

  13. Deprer says:

Russians call this hightech? They pretty much just slap this sh*t together with their hands and expect it to be some topnotch airplane.

When I see lots of comments on an article I already know there is some “america vs russia” bashing going which has absolutely no connections with the article. If you guys want to discuss politics there are thousands of other sites for it, this is not the place (at least it shouldn’t be – moderators?). Here you are just spamming.

    • andy says:

Good point. I am partly guilty.

    • Bob says:

Uh no, this IS the place to discuss such topics as the posts are relevant.

You don’t like it? Go somewhere else.

I’ve been visiting this site since the beginning and half the fun is coming back to check out the comments.

There used to be a crowd of regulars, those were the days =)

  15. Rob Normann says:

Great pictures from a great photographer. Very interesting to see how this birds are born.

  16. john says:

I love the looks of that aircraft ,it seems so compact. truly awesome machine .

    Yes thats right.

But we dont forget this problem every day and from wich country it come s.
USA / Nato startet this war.

Dont forget it every day !!!

    Remember it every day !!!

  18. andy says:

“Mittens” made a good point suggesting staying more focussed on subject of the posting, not try to revive the Cold War.
“Bob” laments the older times on Englishrussia (which I much remember). I recall
    long, vitriolic arguments between “regulars.”
I don’t miss them. Maybe they all choked to death on their own egos.

  19. Bill Peter says:

Where’s the article, or is this just irritating spam?
