15 Passenger Jets Made of Wood

Passenger Jets Made of Wood

Posted on September 13, 2014 by tim

No, really these are Russian passenger jets made of wood. A big factory making real planes out of wood. Want to see what they look like inside and to know why they chose wood in the modern world to make planes? They look like boats with those carcasses made of wood. Why? We’ll tell you inside:

First of all, these planes are really made of wood.

Inside, they really look like normal planes.

You did not explain anything. I call clickbait.

    but you didn’t tell us.

    cool ,very cool.

  4. Mick Rogers says:

    Very neat indeed

  5. You says:

They are using real size wooden models for testing equipment and inside structures (like chairs, navigation, etc). Usually these are tested using 3D modelling using software programs.

Yes it is quite normal to build mock ups as part of the design process. Wood is a lot quicker and easier to work with than making one out of metal. You can do a lot of work using 3D modelling but when that is done you want to build a full sized model so that you can get real pilots, real mechanics etc to play with it and see how good the design is, like are controls too hard to reach. And then once you have done that you have something you can take to conventions and show customers.

Correct, this is what I figured. So making them of wood saves money. However, they are not real passenger jets then, they are like models for testing.

  8. Iain says:

Wooden mockups are used to prove hand-drawn design drawings are correct and for marketing demonstration purposes, before the metal tooling is configured to produce the prototype. This was the age before computer CAD models.

You must be really stupid if you do not understand what is written neath the first photo on this page

  10. Muzzlehatch says:

He said that building the planes from wood makes it easier to make design changes.

  11. Spoeden says:

    They did tell you…

“They make full scale planes to test stuff, and wood was chosen to be the best material for fast changes. Like if you want to change something, here you go – saw something off and here you are.”

  12. Mick Rogers says:

Logical when you think about it
