A MI helicopter crashed in Gelenzhik near the Black Sea during some event devoted to the aviation. The copter was carrying a big red banner saying: “Helicopters of Russia”, and then when almost landed it crashed and burst on fire. There is a video of an accident as well as more photos inside.

I don’t know which is worse. Having the tail section fail after a not so hard landing….or….Having the emergency response team take 4 minutes to arrive on the scene. Russian technology and efficiency at its finest.

Or the fact the fire trucks appear not to be aiming at the fire itself? Lack of training, lack of manpower, lack of money…. poor effort.

  2. Vijay says:

Let us all pray for the crew of that chopper and their friends, coworkers. May the Lord give them strength to deal with this challenge and move on.

  3. snowdenikoff says:

The tail boom sure did buckle easily.

  4. Iain says:

Classic vortex ring state accident, Pilot error.

  5. petrohof says:

well he really did come in hard and looks like the left rear tire blew, that’s a lot of energy stored so when you make a helicopter unstable at 0 altitude you have a real problem.

  6. Tutan Camon says:

The landing was too strong/hard.The tail receive the shock and broke.

  7. Philip says:

I actually think it’s caused by a phenomenon called Vortex Ring State. You can see that the pilot tries to correct the helicopter by pushing the nose down to create forward motion.
