Get Berlin

Posted on May 6, 2014 by tim

Putting a funny mustache on the front of your car? Sticking a pair of deer horns out of the window before the Christmas? You’ll never see that in Russia, however what you can see is the cars decorated as tanks, Katyusha rocket launchers, deliberately covered in camp and dirt. This is how the enthusiasts prepare their cars for the upcoming Victory Day. The most popular slogan on those cars is: “Get Berlin!”. However this year some people add “and Maidan (Ukraine)” to it.

  5. Tommo says:

@ Daniel Duarte::: 22 million dead isn’t something to move on from any time soon.

But Stalin on the side of the bus is a bit rich.

    • Dan says:

In Europe 38 million died. Most of them between the allies. They moved on. And the way celebrated here is a bit distorted in my point of view. Solemn celebration must be done, not bragging “take Berlin”, “take Moscow” or whatever.
The fact is that Russia considers WW2 as the Great Patriotic War and still live it in all its colors daily.

      • IronWolf says:

Well said Dan. Personally I find these displays offensive considering what these “heroes” did in the Baltics during WW2. Just as offensive as parading around in Nazi costumes. And then they wonder why is there all this resentment against russia. Completely self unaware.

Very, very beautiful cars with camouflage of the WWII !!!
    I love Russia it’s a great country !!!

  7. IronWolf says:

So Putin urges the postponement of the separatist referendum in East Ukraine, supports the upcoming elections and pulled back troops from the border. How do you like your leader now ??

  8. Leonid says:

I find it very ironic that country, which participated in starting 2WW (e.g. Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact) celebrate end of that war so loudly a theatrically.

    • Nick says:

Stalin gave Germans 2 years worth of food, metal and oil. See german trade with USSR. He basically propped up the regime of Hitler and gave him the resources to kill Russians.

  9. john says:

yeas i love PUTIN, he is real leader !!!

    • Dan says:

leaders should be respected and continuously monitored, not loved. Remember people are people, always they make mistakes, and its very easy to get dazzled by power.

    • Roj says:

Nothing is wrong with Putin as long as you are not from the opposition, an independent journalist or gay.

  10. Ma says:

War started in 1939 when Hitler 1.09 and stalin 17.09 invaded Poland! Then they were truly friends.

  11. Joe says:

I find it ironic that half the cars dressed up as T-34 tanks headed “to Berlin” are made by German manufacturers.

Nevertheless, I feel like I should join in the celebrations by painting an old Ford Mustang olive drab and writing “M4 Sherman” on the side of it!

  12. Roj says:

Nationalists, not too different from brainwashed religious zealots or fundamentalists. People like these are narrow minded pawns that can be easily manipulated as a tool in the hands of politicians.
