New Russian Spaceport is Being Built

Posted on April 19, 2014 by tim

A new Russian spaceport “Vostochniy” (“Eastern”) is being built in far east Russia. Earlier, in Soviet times, the majority of launches were performed from the Soviet spaceport “Baikonur” in Kazakhstan. Now Kazakhstan is a separate state and it’s said that Russia pays $115 million to Kazakhstan yearly to be able to use the facility. The construction of the new spaceport is expected to reduce these costs and it also brings more workspaces to the Far East of Russia. The construction began in 2011 and the first unmanned flight is expected to be launched from here in 2015.

Hahahaha! Yeah, paid for with the money they extorted out of the USA for flights to the international space station.

It’s OK to raise the price when you have your customers over a barrel. But the problem is you guys got greedy. Now we’re going to cut you out of the loop all together.

  2. LOL says:

First build a rocket then talk about “cut you out”. So far you still use even our engines RD-180.

History shows that they can build a rocket, but they are practical and are chasing what is the cheapest solution (as always).

Cant wait to see it when its all done, i have been exited ever since i found out about it!

  4. Sergray says:

Pay rent for Baikonur not expensive. Another thing is that Kazakhstan can suddenly turn hostile state. It happened this year with Ukraine, which last year was the military-industrial partner of Russia, and now is preparing for war. In Kazakhstan, the President will change suddenly and spaceport taken away. This is not the case.

  5. Hansjörg says:

The rent for Baikonur in Kazakhstan is much cheaper than the costs for a new build spaceport. The new spaceport is not about beeing cheaper, it is about beeing independent.
