What a time this was- I arrived in St. Petersburg in early 2002 and the whole place was wide open! You could almost taste the potential in the air. It truly felt as if anything were possible. A sense of freedom – yes, freedom- that I had never experienced even in my home country.

Sadly, that time was all too brief. Within a few years Piter became overbuilt, over commercialized and way over priced. While there are still pockets of charm to be found in the city it’s just not the same.

It was great while it lasted though.

I was in grade 3, in 1999, This city, I was amazed by the grandeur of the buildings and terrible yards…. Cultural people and drug addicts…. In Moscow, all much less mixed) But in Peter I still must go, although I didn’t like. It seems I was not familiar.

Amidst the poverty and decaying buildings, a Lamborghini. Typical post-communism scenario.
