The Largest City Beyond the Polar Circle: Murmansk

The northernmost city in the world is a hero-city Murmansk, Russia. It’s famous for its sea port and icebreakers. Besides this, Murmansk is the largest city in the world located beyond the polar circle.

Murmansk is a frontier city and it should be under protection. Northern Fleet marines stand guard over it.

Murmansk stretches for almost twenty kilometers along the eastern coast of the Kola Bay. The highest point of Murmansk is a nameless hill 305 meters high.

They say that fishing vessels do not come to Murmansk anymore and prefer to unload in Norway, it is allegedly more cost-efficient.
