Pacific Landfill

Posted on February 21, 2014 by tim

It’s a landfill in Primorye – on the Pacific coast of Russia. They say in winter they receive 400 tons of trash daily. The stuff is being sorted by people and then goes either to recycling facilites or to be dumped directly on the landfill field. How much of the trash is recycled?

The company states that only around 11% of the trash is being recycled for now. Also some parts of it are being burned but the majority is being buried in the ground.

The plastic bottles for example go to China.

Metals are being separated into aluminium and all others.

Paper and cardboard is being processed by another company locally.

This is what the buried stuff looks like.
