Twin Cars Detected!

Posted on February 17, 2014 by team

A curious incident happened this week in Astana, Kazakhstan. The owner of Mazda CX7 noticed a complete copy of his car in his own city. But how can these cars have identical number plates?

The owner of the second car remains unknown, the vehicle itself has been taken to the pound.

One is legit and one is stolen. That way the stolen one becomes legit. False plates and false documents. Easy. They do here in Brazil too. Bad luck to the legit owner he has to pay speed tickets for both.

We’ve had that happening in Germany last year … twice. One set of license plates obviously is a forgery, but it’s less hassle if your car matches your license number dataset.

Usually a way to move a stolen car over the border.

Some automotive theft rings have done the same in the USA. Steal a vehicle and then find its twin with correct paperwork. Make a fake VIN data plate to match the legal vehicle along with false title paperwork and then sell it for cash at less than market value. The buyer loses his money when the fraud is discovered.
