The Main Battle of the Afghan War

Posted on February 17, 2014 by team

The other day there was held a reconstruction of the main battle for Hill 3234 in the Afghan war in Saint-Petersburg. In 1988 thirty nine Soviet paratroopers opposed between 200 and 400 special units soldiers trained in Pakistan.

The soldiers of the Russian army were trying to reach a besieged city, Host, and take humanitarian supplies there. The Mujahideen rebels were sitting in ambush and waiting for the Soviet soldiers. The battle lasted twelve hours. The Mujahideen finally retreated. Out of 39 Soviet fighters, six died, and twenty eight were wounded, but the rebels did not manage to take the hill. As a result, Host was liberated, an autonomous Islamic state was not formed.

    • Faith Gorodki says:

“Not true” and “so did the west”. Do we a contradiction here or do we a contradiction here? Make up your mind, man.

  3. George says:

Seems like it would be kind of hard to reenact that in the city. Just not the same.
But was driving the truck into the pond part of the show?

  4. tony says:

Why do they re-enact bloody war scenes in Russia so much. It seems that the main business of Russia is wars past and future? Strange minds.

  5. Dag says:

Those country are very dangerous and impossible to conquer USA found out hard way. Very evil country Afganstan

  6. Jean says:

As america sponsored the arab terrorists in Afganistan a new plan for solving the problem was needed, but Russia decided to leave the country for better, so the americans get their friends they sponsored on visit, and you know what. they better build low as higher buildings temp to collapse.

  7. Nikoliy says:

hmm… it took 10 years for Taliban to gain control of Afghanistan after USSR departed. With US forces still present Taliban is at 80-90% of its 2001 strength. What is going to happen when they leave? Just look at Iraq. 1013 people killed just in Jan 2014 by or fighting against Al-Qaeda and that is in a country were their were NO terrorist present before US forces invaded. All that without a super power fighting against US… Don’t laugh at events you don’t comprehend.

    • MAXDMG says:

Well, they’re against the United States protect their land) There capture nothing….. Mountains and desert, but when there were troops of the USSR, to bring drugs was 10 years interrupted…

  11. Jan says:

Is that the same hill as the movie “The 9th Legion” (orginal “9 rota”) from 2005 by Fedor Bondarchuk is about? It is a very good movie anyway.

    • MAXDMG says:

Yes the movie about this, but the reality has nothing…. Real 9th company lost 6 people, destroying more than 500 militants as was much better prepared, had air support and a dominant height…….

  12. Johny_D says:

Communist idiots made the biggest error to invade Afghanistan…they have to be declared as traitors and criminals in Russia. Stupid political leaders are responsible for army losses, wasting of resourses
