Artem, the Man and the Monument

Posted on November 18, 2013 by team

This monument to Artem Sergeev, the revolutioner, loader, dock labourer, secretary of the regional party organization, is the highest sculpture in the style of cubism on the territory of Europe. Its height is 22 meters, with the pedestal – 28 meters. Besides, it’s the most massive concrete sculpture in the world – its weight is 800 tons. It was created within three months from unique concrete (the recipe is lost) without any construction mechanisms. So it’s another world record. In the war time the fist of the figure was used as an observation site and gun-nest by both Red Army and Wehrmacht.
