Listening to the radio is not a new type of entertainment, but listening to the radio with help of grass – it is definitely something new! But who knows how dangerous it might be?

    What risk do they take?

RF burns tend to bore a hole to the nearest bone and take a long time to heal.

Touching with different grasses means changing channels, right? Cool..

The electric arc is modulated by radio signal, thats why it plays. But it is really really dangerous – if he touch the tower with hand, he will be probably dead in a second.

It’s not that dangerous. We did this without rubber glowes and not with grass, but with a coin. At my country’s largest antenna, with 3 MW output. And I’m still here.

The tower has very powerful RF energy running through it. The plant is quite conductive so when the kid touches the plant to the tower, the RF goes through the plant, through the kid, and into the ground, forming a complete circuit. All this current flowing through the plant makes it heat up (which is also why the kid kept jerking his hand back). When the plant heats up it starts burning. The flame gets ionized by the strong RF current and “sings” in response to amplitude modulated RF. It’s sort of plasma speaker.

The bad news is that getting so strong currents at high frequencies through your body increases risk of getting a cancer…

Not that bad, they had rubber gloves on.

But, probably won’t ever have kids, or at least not normal ones.

There’s a reason you’re not supposed to get this close to it, it’s calle radiation.

Hmmm… sunlight is also electromagnetic radiation, as is heat… or the light from a lamp.

Yes, but it’s best not to get too close to the sun and it’s radiation either.
