To make this winter day warmer and cosier we are going to cook meat roasted the Cossack way. This dish is nutritious and tasty: men gonna like it for sure. But we need to buy some products first.

    Here is what we need:

    pork belly – 300 g
    veal – 300 g
    smoked bacon – 300 g
    smoked pork ribs – 200 g.

Yes, it’s gonna be a lot of meat!

    Besides:

    potatoes – 8-10 pcs
carrots – sweet ones, 2 pcs

Two garlic cloves, bay leaves, mix of peppers, spices, salt, oil.

Pork and veal are diced, then salt, pepper, spices are added. Everything is to be fried in a big amount of oil. Add the pork first, then, in a minute, add the veal.

The bacon is diced too. It is added into the pot with the cut carrots where oil is boiling. Don’t forget to taste the meat in the process.

In some minutes more we should add meat cut off from the smoked ribs. In fact it’s not necessary to cut it off, as you wish. Fry it all together and repeatedly stir it.

Then we put layers of fried meat, chopped raw potatoes, fried meat again, potatoes, meat, potatoes. Between the layers put some bay leaves. Do not cut the potatoes finely.

The upper level must be fried meat again. The potatoes absorb meat juice that appears in the process of frying. Add water or meat broth into the pot. The optimal amount of water is when the pot if full for 3/4.

Heat the oven to 200 C (392 F) and put the pot in it for one hour. You can check if the dish is ready by pricking the potatoes with a fork.

When the dish is almost ready, squeeze the garlic on the meat layer, stir it carefully, cover the pot and roast for 5-7 minutes more.

The ready roasted meat is to be served with sauerkraut, other homemade pickles or with vodka.

It is perfect for hungry men!
