World didn`t believe, ha. Then ask yourself, why? The answer is obvious – western mass-media always lie about Russia. If smth. bad happens there- it immedietly spread all over the world. And NEVER – if news are good. “Freedom of speach and information”, take it.

World didn`t believe, and the CIA just didn’t seem to understand the consequences of creation of the mujahidin movement and the radicalization of Islam. Only their colleagues from «Al Mukhabarat Al A’amah» of Saudi Arabia did (these guys definitely have a taste for the long term strategic planning)
The world didn’t believe it because the SOVIETS were really good at lying about things that happened or didn’t happen. Thats a fact. Chernobyl is one of those things.
