    Time to Hit the Target!

    This is a photo report from the Moscow Open Sports Sniping Championship that was held in July 2012.

    Eight types of exercises were planned for shooting at the distance of 50-650 m. (165-2130 ft). A shooter had to have a rifle with a telescopic sight and fire accuracy 0.5-1.0 MOA.






    Exercise 1 “Cold shot”, 200m.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: metal sleeve

    Range: 160 m

    Number of shots: 1

    Preparation time: two minutes

    Shooting time: fefteen seconds.

    Shooting position: lying.

    Exercise 2 “Chain links”, 100m.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: five squares with the side of 13 mm (0,05 inches)

    Range: 100 m

    Number of shots: 5

    Preparation time: three minutes

    Shooting time: two minutes

    Shooting position: lying.

    It reads “Shooting line №3″.

    Exercise 3 “Tumbler”, Field.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: three falling targets of 100-150-200mm (4-6,5-8 inches)

    Range: 50-100-150m (165-330-490 ft)

    Number of shots: unlimited

    Preparation time: sixty seconds

    Shooting time: two minutes

    Shooting position: from the knee or standing

    Exercise 4 “Gunner”, Field.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: the gong located in the building

    Range: approximately 400 m (1320 ft)

    Number of shots: 1

    Preparation time: fifteen seconds

    Shooting time: two minutes

    Shooting position: arbitrary

    Exercise 5 “Tactic sniping”, Field.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: five gongs 200-300 mm (8-12 inches)

    Range: approximately 300 – 650 m (980-2130 ft)

    Number of shots: unlimited

    Preparation time: two minutes

    Shooting time: three minutes

    Shooting position: arbitrary

    Exercise 6 “Wall”, Field.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: paper target with a black circle (d=10cm (4″))

    Number of shots: 5

    Preparation time: two minutes

    Shooting time: three minutes

    Shooting position: arbitrary

    Exercise 7 “Unknown distance”, Field.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: gong 200 mm (8″)

    Range: approximately 300 – 650 m (980-2130 ft)

    Number of shots: 1

    Preparation time: two minutes

    Shooting time: two minutes

    Shooting position: arbitrary

    Exercise 8 “Custom”, Field.

    Type of exercise: individual

    Target: gong 200 – 300 mm (8-12″)

    Range: approximately 300 – 650 m (980-2130 ft)

    Number of shots: 2

    Preparation time: two minutes

    Shooting time: one minute

    Shooting position: arbitrary

    They were also shooting at the contactless electronic target made in Sweden.

      If anybody were to offer, I would not turn down ANY of those guns.

      And any of the anti-gun nuts out there that whine about people owning guns, never, ever take into consideration sport shooting like this. To those idiots, the only reason to own a gun is to kill people.

      I guess this post pretty much blew that out of the water. Oh! Blew it out of the water, can I say that? Isn’t that too violent? bah!

        It’s more comfortable than army issue boots. Wayyy more comfortable.

      Sport sniping! WTF is sport sniping? Sniping the practice of killing by a concealed marksman. I know, I have been one. It is certainly not a sport. The label sport trivializes the killing of human beings.

      I’m actually kind of surprised to see the SVD hanging with the Accuracy International AW, DTA SRS and some of the other super accurised rifles shown, as it’s more of a sharpshooters rifle as opposed to a dedicated snipers rifle.
