Bottle Caps As a House Decoration

Posted on September 11, 2012 by team

One woman from Kamarchaga village of the Krasnoyarsk region whose name is Olga Kostina is beautifying her house in quite an original way. She uses bottle caps to decorate the house from outside. Matching the caps of different colors she depicts nice patterns, images of animals and plants.

Maybe I should do the same with a summer house? But how many bottles of soda or beer should I drink first?

Olga is a conceptual artist, this is what they do because they have a unique vision: take what others discard and make beauty of it.

I love the idea. When I will have my house, I really want to have decoration on my outside walls like she has. Only few words about this project. She used simple nails, they rust and in no time leave ugly discoloration beneath them. So use rust resistant nails (zinc nails for example), or just make stick them to the wall. Second one, better not to use bottle plastic caps, because on the direct sun, colors will fade quickly. Few month pass, and colors will start to vanish. If you must have to use plastic bottle caps, just apply transparent glaze on them. They will last at least few seasons. If you considering make decoration for years, use ceramic tiles. Yes, it is more expensive, but if You make it well, they can last for centuries.

You have to wonder how many bottles she drinks in order to complete what she has done so far! It is a really unique way of adorning the outside of your house though. It also makes you wonder how on earth this was discovered in the first place, it looks particulary rural….:)
