The cave in Novy Afon, Abkhasia, is a place that is always visited by crowds of tourists. The place fascinates with glimmering luster of stalagmites and stalactites, and deep crystal lakes. Every tourist tries to see the wonder of nature and is very impressed after that.

Now it is time to go to the cave. Don’t forget to take warm clothes as it is very cold inside. The special train takes people under the ground!

It’s the only subway system in the world that leads into the cave!

This is the largest cave in Abkhasia the area of which constitutes 1 million cubic meters. It was discovered in 1961 by a local boy who is now director of this complex. In 14 years after the discovery the place was examined throughly and prepared for meeting tourists. Lakes can be found inside the cave. One of them is 26 meters deep.

The cave has 11 halls but only some of them are opened for tourists.

One hall named Moscow has wonderful acoustic properties and often holds concerts. The natural formation is called a human scull.

An excursion lasts 1,5 hours. People say that photos fail to impart the beauty of the place to the right extent and to evaluate the beauty of natural mineral compositions one needs to visit the cave in person.

    Are you sure that main gallery is 260 KM long? That’s a HUGE cave then!

    Surely, the largest hall is 260 meters long, not 260 kilometers. Must have been a typo.
