    Taking Down a Cross

    126
Posted on August 17, 2012 by russia

So, there was a cross in Kiev which they put in the memory of the soldiers and people who were killed in World War 2. Then there was (there is!) a FEMEN group that likes to go topless everywhere and protest. Previously it was a pretty wild show but still nothing compared to this. So they found this cross took the chainsaw undressed and…

    Then ran away.

One thing when you disrespect feelings of believers by doing some stupid performance in a cathedral… but destroying a public property and a spiritual symbol of many at that is totaly another thing that deserves a proper punishment. This just confirms that these femen don’t have any moral principles what-so-ever… human trash.

This group is getting tiresome. They have no philosophy, they apparently just want to display their bare breasts. Anybody with an internet connection can see all the bare breasts they want, with better posing and better photography. It appears that they only need husbands who will make them behave properly.

Interestingly I saw one of the same photos on a New Zealand news website and the caption was that they were cutting down the cross in protest against Pussy Riot’s members being put on trial for hollaganism, with no mention to what the cross was for. Pussy Riot having staged their protest in a church in protest against the Church’s support for Putin.

In the past I have sympathized with most of what these women do, but there was absolutely no reason for their actions this time. The cross was put up to remember the thousands upon thousands who died in Kiev alone during the war. In this case, I hope these women are caught, given a taste of the billy club, tried, and jailed for a while. They should also be made to pay for a replacement cross, too. Utterly disgusting.

Hooliganism: In all modern countries it’s called “disorderly conduct” and is a summary offense, punished with a fine. But Russia puts those offenders in jail for two years.

Femen is right to protest. Russia needs to change, to discard their love of a “boss,” of a supreme leader who keeps order by silencing those who dissent.

And if cutting down this cross helps achieve that, khorosho.

No, You don´t understand. Protesting in a Synagougue is anti-semitism, which is met with a public penalty, screaming a mosque is islamophobia, which again is met with ostracism, but desecrating a church is a rightful protest against an erroneously democratically elected government that refuses to give away all its oil and gas for free! This is rewarded with public applause from the west. These are the rules…

For a protest like this ina synagougue in the worst scenario israeli guards would have been shout the intruders pretending security reasons. In the light scenario the “protester” would have been beaten and imprisoned in EU contries for 5 to 7 years for antisemitism. In Israel prison up to 10 years. democracy on the rise!

You all are not very well educated, aren’t you? Putin can’t do shit about them because they are not citizens of Russia, but Ukraine. Because they speak very simmilar languages (at least to western ears) doesn’t mean they are from the same country. Ukraine was part of USSR, when it collapsed, got separated and now it’s sovereign country.
Trashing down this cross just means that the russina political repression isn’t over yet, and it was erected too early. And you people who can’t understand what they are doing, educate yourselves, because when police baton lands on your back, it will be too late for you to start thinking if you country’s leadership is going the wrong way.

Probably you were in a hurry and didn’t get the message. I never said that Putin can do something about femen. I sad that for ukrainians who can’t handle a state(or society) is better to be part of Russia. The ethnic (and cultural) distance between russians and ukrainians is less that between let’s say baviarians and prussians in Germany. About the “Ukraina, sovereign country” let’s be serious: Ukraina beg for EU because is incapable to stand on their own feet. So russian solution is the best, beeing from the same family.

You explained me perfectly: because of russian repression femen cut down a religious and historical symbol of all ukrainians who died for their country in WWII. Amazing! I’m exepecting femen to blow up monument of Prince Vladimir, demolish chersonesos and burn Lvov only to demonstrate their love for freedom and loathing for russian occupation which “lands batons on their back”

No prophet, just a simple observation that Ukraine has been less then thrilled to embrace Russia post Soviet Union. Funny how little things like pre-Stalinist, Stalinist and post Stalinist atrocities affect ones judgment of their neighbors.

But hey i could be wrong. Ukraine might yet change course and embrace Russia instead of the West, or both if Russia will allow.

I would have felt the same way for any other country’s memorials for their soldiers as well. But I am glad to see that everyone has already reiterated the fact that this is an absolutely disgusting example of defacing not only a group of valiant soldiers who fought to the very last, but also a nation in its attempt to honor them. I dearly hope these people are found and convicted and tried for the atrocities they have committed. And I hope they use these very photographs to do so.

“Russia being dismantled piece by piece” – Good. Had Russia not built their empire on foreign soil there wouldn’t be any need to dismantle it. Good riddance.

@CalDre, Since when does cutting down a cross erected on public property, as a monument to war dead = burning down a Church? Just because the monument was a Cross? It is a piece of wood, a religious symbol, not a Church. There is a difference.

ha ha ha…..there shouldn’t be religious symbols on public property-keep whatever mythos you worship to yourself. You guys wouldn’t like a big satanic or pagan symbol displayed so why is YOUR religious symbolism OK?

Because the society is more christian than pagan and is right and natural to display religiuos symbols in which that society believes. And even more christian symbols should be displayed starting from the fact that Christianity is the whole true religion.

FEMEN – Opposition to Islam – They staged a topless protest at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in opposition to “bloody Islamist regimes,” which they accuse the IOC of supporting.[53] The protest included women in the clothing of Muslim men as well as signs stating “No Sharia.”

Haha, there are pagan symbols EVERYWHERE! From the pornography that surrounds you everywhere you look, to the idols created by Hollywood, to depictions of the Easter Bunny, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus (never mind the all-seeing eye on the Dollar Bill) …. And now in the West all kinds of symbols promoting homosexuality and marriage between them, these are awesome, but symbols of different values – religious ones – those are unbearable, do I understand you correctly?

The irony is that most liberals are so freakin’ intolerant! You can see that in Stalin and Mao – they were “liberals” who wanted to “change the world” and get “rid of religions”, just like you.

Perhaps if they Church had treated people a little better over the millennia they would get a little more respect.

“And now in the West all kinds of symbols promoting homosexuality and marriage between them, these are awesome”

Not in America, read the news. It’s anything but awesome if you believe all the religious nuts who are freaking out about it, as if gays marrying somehow destroys the sanctity of their heterosexual marriage to THEIR wife. I don’t get that logic at all…

Sinbad, If you think 2 gays marrying in any way devalues the commitment that YOU personally swore to YOUR wife, I don’t know what to say. That’s an integrity issue on your part, nothing to do with the gays. It is your own values that are flawed.

Why in the world would those words that you vowed to honor have any less meaning to you, simply because someone who holds different values also committed to something similar with someone else??? Where is your brain? Tell the Church to give it back, that you want to think for yourself.

Marriage is a religious institution, the basis of the family, and homosexuality is a sin in religion. In California, gays had rights to a civil union, which granted them every single benefit of marriage, except the name was different. But the liberals still howled: it must be called marriage! Why? Because they want to destroy religion, and religious values. (Yes of course they would not object to a religion which is just like the liberal dogma – but they object to every religion that is different.)

Why do people object to the debasement of a word? Well, what if someone calls fascism “freedom”? Would you object – after all, it’s only a word, who cares how it’s used and by whom!

“Marriage is a religious institution”… No, it isn’t. Marriage as sanctioned and lawfully recognized by the government of the United States is strictly a secular civil union, the benefits and pitfalls of which have nothing at all to do with a particular religion or it’s beliefs.

Why are you not outraged about THAT “disbasement” of marriage by secular heterosexuals? Instead you are only offended when it is gays who wish to partake in it.

The issue isn’t about religion, it isn’t about the “sanctity of marriage”, it’s about the participants being homosexual. THAT’S what you religious folks really have a problem with. THEY ARE GAY. Those same folks have NO problem with otherwise secular heterosexuals engaging in marriage. No outrage about that…when was the last time you heard a religious minded person complain about secular non religious folks being allowed to marry, and how it destroys the “sanctity of marriage” and all that nonsense?

The issua isn’t marriage or religious values, it’s homosexuality and you religious folks have a fundamental problem with it. JUST ADMIT IT.
