cesium-137 with a half life of 30 years is not dissapearing from the soil at anything near that rate. it is now estimated it may take 180 to 320 years before the area can be reinhabited.

how cool would it be to have a camera set up to take a picture once or twice a day over the last thirty years?
There is still time for a young budding filmmaker to set up a few cheap remote cameras, hide them and maybe use solar for power and have the pictures transmitted somewhere for safe keeping. In thirty years it would make a great back drop for a time machine movie. I love time machine movies they are the best.

That plant is still in danger of exploding one day. They need to figure out how to remove all that radiation from inside the plant and destroy everything that still contains radiation. If that plant blows, it’ll be 4 times more than when it blew back in 1986.
