“Donbass Arena” is an interesting object located in Donetsk.

The stadium was built in 2009 for 50 thousand spectators. For the project of the stadium and the park zone around it they spent 400 million USD. The stadium was built by the Turks, the design belongs to the Englishmen. It had to resemble a flying saucer in the park and the goal was achieved.

The stadium roof is half a meter lower from one side. It’s made so for the better natural light and ventilation. The facade is fully glassed.

The stadium is located in the park of Lenin’s Komsomol (!) where all old trees were replaced with new ones. In fall the leaves are bright orange and red and it looks magnificent. There are also many cascaded beautiful fountains with pure water.

Wow. When I was in Donetsk in 1990, the place was gray, dirty, crumbling, smoggy, and ugly as a pig’s a@s. It looks like there have been some substantial improvements to the place in the past 22 years.
