    Shooting Panoramas For Yandex Maps

Last weekend Yandex shot panoramas in Gorky Park and Chistiye Prudy for its maps. For shooting in a pedestrial area they designed a special three-wheeled bicycle letting them shoot with no violation of traffic rules.

Camera man and bicycle. Over the bicycle are 4 cams Nikon d90, three of them look aside and one – above.

To power the whole system there is a big storage battery on the carrier that provides energy enough for two shooting days.

Laptop in front of the bike is for adjusting all camera settings and to show the route.

Screenshot from the laptop. Auto shooting interval is each 20 m. Previews can be also shown. To the left is a plan of streets to be shot.

If a camera man sees something interesting he always has a button of manual shooting.

Travel speed is not so slow, by the way.

    And some turns are quick.

The panoramas of the parks and other pedestrial areas can be seen at Yandex in few months already.

Google Streetview is now available in the Ukraine, Latvia and Estonia. In Russia it is available in Moscow, St. Petersburg and parts of Kazan.
