Fighting the Swarms of Locusts

Posted on May 17, 2012 by team

Southern regions of Russia are annually invaded by locusts. This year the most problem zone is the Limansky district of the Astrakhan region. Young locusts are greedily eating plants, it’s a serious damage to agriculture.

In fighting the insects an An-2 plane is being used, it is spraying pesticides from the air on the larvae spreading spots, besides, some tractors and manual sprayers are in operation.

Preliminary survey of the territory is being carried out by schoolchildren, they are running about the fileds and fixing focuses of mass reproduction of pests.

Thank you for these pictures of the wonderful old Antonov-2 aircraft at work.

Very interesting. Glad to see “young pioneers” enlisted to help. So, the locusts are like imperialists? Or fascist invaders? The pilot looks like a true warrior.

  3. What those guyz above me said + KILL EM ALL!! Oh, and the guy loading the plane with the pesticide hose should do himself a favor and wear some gloves. Pesticides build up a tolerance that can kill when the dosage reaches criticle levels. I’ve seen it happen.

  4. Mike Talino says:

How barbaric, murdering innocent poor insects.
