    Hunting For Elks

Posted on April 23, 2012 by team

A story of one hunting for elks near Kabanovo village, the Moscow region.

In general 30 people participated including huntsmen, so briefing was necessary.

All in all they had three licences available: for 2 elks and 1 wild boar. The huntsmen confirmed – according to the tracks in the forest there are both elks and boars.

Only elk males can be shot down. Females are inviolable or you’ll have to pay a huge fine. The same with boars.

The team is divided into two groups: the first, with guns, will stand on “the numbers” in a shooting line, others will drive animals in the ambush direction. The second group will wear yellow jackets not be shot instead of animals…

The second group is taken to another end of the forest to start from there…

The huntsmen help to define the direction.

    Wind-fallen trees

This time animals could escape the beaters. The huntsmen started to examine the tracks trying to find out in what direction the elks had moved. The animals were not far, in the next forest… So the people went in that direction.

    Luck

    Killed with several shots

And the second trophy, killed with one shot under the ear.

    Memorable photos

Guns are not needed anymore so they are unloaded and put aside.

300 kg elk can’t be put into a car trunk and the licence cost is 1000 USD. So they share meat right there.

Cutting off the skin with hunting knives

The head is given to a shooter.

The entrails are carefully separated and thrown away

The heart, as a delicacy, is not thrown away. The liver is shared between all the participants of the hunting, it will be grilled in fire and eaten with vodka.

In an hour not a bloody thing remains…

Cruel thing but this is the world we live in. One should be a predator or else he is just a prey anyway. The difference between humans and animals on this matter is that man dreams about the utopia without predator nor prey. The utopia itself is worth dreaming about, but will never come true.

No size limit? In Alaska, with rare exceptions, you could not shoot a moose that young.

That is interesting that in Russia you are allowed to have more shooters in the hunting than you have licences (assuming these guys were hunting legally). In the US you can have others help you drive the animals around but only the holders of the licenses are allowed to have weapons. Also, you may only have a weapon as long as you have a license and you cannot shoot for someone else’s license.
