Zaha Hadid is probably the most famous female architect of our time. Here we present photos of her project – the Concert Hall of the Cultural Centre named after Geidar Aliev in Baku, Azerbaijan. The absolute harmony of smooth lines creates an illusion of eternity, the inside concert hall is fully (!) made of natural wood.
This huge construction has an area 110 thousand m2 will be the main part in the new district of Baku. The Cultural Center itself will contain a museum, a library, a conference-hall, and a hall for festive and cultural occasions. There will be a lot of transparent, glass walls in the building, so artificial light will not be dominant.

And how it look in the beginning of April 2012.

And inside

Concert hall is the most interesting part of the project. It seats 2000 persons. Its shapes are free and assymetric, with no boarders between the roof, walls and floor. For ideal acoustics the hall was fully made of natural wood.

The Concert Hall is ready

Soon the new Concert Hall will accept first guests.

Zaha Hadid is genius!
and 40 years later we’ll see pictures of this place in ruins and abandoned..
Skate park!
It’s so beautiful! I hope one day I can visit!
Just don’t leave don’t venture more than a 4 blocks away from the boulevard. Anything past that and you might see what life is like in a country where the average person lives off of less than 400 Manat per month and has little to no economic of political freedom.
Azerbaijan is getting better and better at putting on a great facade that masks the real problems in the country. Instead of an opera house Azerbaijan needs a solid infrastructure, i.e. clean water, well built roads, uncorrupt politicians/police, and basic democratic rights.
Providing necessities is far more important/wonderful than providing luxuries for the few.
Must be nice to have oil money. Wont last forever. Tom has a point.
I like cheese!
