Metal Constructions For Olympic Objects In Sochi

The plant where pole fittings are produced is rather new and appeared a couple of years ago. It was built instead of another factory that used to produce transmission lines for track machines but was closed after collapse of the USSR.

The factory was left abandoned but was soon noticed by Murom businessmen who brought new equipment and invited employees.   Every plant starts with a raw material storage. Here steel plates are stored. The plant is mainly busy with their processing.

The plates are cut and can acquire any shape with the help of the plasma arc cutting unit.

Gas-cutting machine uses gas instead of plasma.

Some steel plates are too uneven and have to be reshaped.

The pressure machine is the heart of entire production.

It can bend thick and long plates easily.

Bent plates are sent for welding.

Some details are too huge to be processed by the machine.

They are processed with special tractors.

After welding a product has to be covered with some coating to prevent corrosion. They use liquid zinc for that.

First the product is washed with soap solution.

    It is then acid-etched.

A fluxing agent will prevent the surface from another contamination.

The constructions are kept in a special furnace at 500 degrees.

They are later put into a reservoir with liquid zinc.

It is not easy to remove the construction after it was covered with zinc.

Zinc is widely consumed and ingots are always available.

Ready-made constructions are first left in the room and then put into fresh water.

As soon as the detail is cold it is examined to find any defect.

It is sent to the warehouse where it will be packed.

This is a footing for a light tower located in Sochi.

It is really huge because it accommodates up to 48 appliances. Besides, it is the way it can handle strong winds and earthquakes.

The plant also produces shape steel-rolled stock.

Different appliances including continuous milling machine are shown below.

    Bent details.

Coating with zinc is called galvanizing.
