She said she would agree to be photographed without showing her face and answer a couple of questions.
Her name is Margo. They never tell each other their true names.
She has been in the business for 6 years already and her story is simple enough. In 2005 she left a small village and came to Almaty to get a higher education. She failed to enter the University, but managed to pass exams to a culinary college. Soon she made some friends, they went out regularly and she ran into many debts. A friend of her said she knew how they could cover the debts.
They went for a date, had a wonderful evening without any sex and got some money.
Prostitutes are usually younger than 30 years old. They often have small kids and some of them are married.
Margo doesn’t go to work every day. She deals with constant clients only. She dreams of finding a regular job but says she needs to settle up her debts first. She tried to work at a shop but they paid not enough and she couldn’t sleep for long.
She rents an apartment sharing it with some other girls whose clients come to their place according to the schedule. Nobody of them works or studies. The girls often drink and even take light drugs so she changes the place of residence from time to time.
Her relatives have no idea what Margo does in the big city and think she works as an administrator in a restaurant. The girl is afraid that they will turn their backs on her as soon as they know what she does. She will have to cope with another problem in the future as her parents want her younger sister to come and live with her.
Margo dreams to find a true love, get married and have a family.
There are several reasons why women become prostitutes. Some don’t want to work anywhere, others are just short of money.
A large amount of women choose that work. Exact figures are not mentioned anywhere but only in Almaty they reach several thousand. Several thousand of somebody’s daughters, sisters and wives.

Prostitution has been going on since almost the dawn of time. Trying to tie this to “capitalism” is just plain ignorant. I don’t recall capitalism murdering millions upon millions of it’s own people, because they were just inconvenient (like, you can’t feed them, or maybe you’re just paranoid….Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and the Kims of North Koread (they’re not done yet either) just to name a couple, any idea how many millions have died in their names?)
Capitalism keeps you alive and forces you to a conditions that psychologically tortures yourself when it comes down to it. The absolute freedom is the best thing.

very sad. Yu can find exactly the same style adverts in London’s “Loot” newspaper. Brothels are everywhere across London and it is never talked about. Drive through Belgium and they are all standing in windows with neon lights. And France has street walkers and small vans. Spain and Germany have huge mega brothels. So all this takes place in West Europe as well. But like drug addition and burglary….nobody cares so long as it doesn’t happen to them.
