Welcome to a factory in Astrakhan that produces qualitative canned vegetables without preservatives and colorants. Only salt, sugar and vinegar are widely used.

In Soviet times people enjoyed eating healthy food. We didn’t have very large companies that had to use preservatives and other additives to deliver their products throughout the whole country because there were factories in every region. All the products were sold out immediately. Soviet people came to know about preservatives after the fall of the country.

Products are cleaned before heat treatment.
Before heat treatment the products are cleaned.

The products that failed to go through the control step are discarded.

Some operations are done manually.

Preserved tins are boiled in these huge cans.

The food and packing departments interrelate through the database.

As i see this pictures,i think it’s a healthy work floor, with smiling workers.
Umm, vinegar is a preservative itself. So is salt, one of the oldest known preservatives, and finally, by binding water, sugar acts as a very effective, natural preservative. The Soviet citizen has been eating food with preservatives all along, they just weren’t told about it, like many other facts of life.
Saying “preservative” in Russian translates as “condom”. Say “con – ser – vat” unless you want to say condom.
I guess there’s no FDA in Russia.
Gnarly!!
Nice report! But i thint that it`s not full healthy foob, cose condition of factories is very bad, manual operations cant provide sanitary standards- dirty manufacturing rooms, workers have`t clean uniform… imho
