Construction Of A Building Plant in Ukraine

This time we’ll visit a new steel plant in Ukraine that will be launched very soon.

One arc furnace with capacity of 180 tons is under construction now. It will produce 1 million 300 thousand tons of steel a year. 600 employees are working here. It will be launched in spring 2012.

A new electric station was built. It has two electric transformers, one of which is shown in the picture.

A 330 kV cable line was laid from the Pridneprovskaya Thermal Power Plant to feed the electric station. The line is 14 km long.

A voltage measuring transformer decreases voltage from 330 kV to 100 kV for protective circuit. A high-voltage surge arrester protects the electric station from switching overvoltage.

Disconnecting switches are needed to create a visible circuit break while carrying our repairs. Safety is very important here.

    330 kV sulfur-hexafluoride circuit breaker.

    5 sets of circuit-breakers.

The table says that they use foreign equipment but the transformer is of domestic origin.

The sizes of the transformer are impressive.

The transformers are separated by fireproof walls so that three transformers could continue working in case of a fire on one of them.

    Cooling radiators.

The ventilators cool down the radiators. In summer the noise is terrible. Right now there is no voltage here, works will start in autumn.

The cooling system is controlled from here.

The electric station is controlled with the help of the mnemocircuit. The computer can be used to switch on and off the entire equipment on the electric station.

    Guard relay.

A system of transformer protection. In case of emergency that can cause a fire, oil from the transformer goes to a separate green pipe shown in picture 11 and the transformer is filled with nitrogen.

The plant itself is under construction now. Equipment is supplied from different countries such as Italy, Germany and France. Foreigners were controlling the process of construction. Local workers were invited much later. Now the workshops are filled with sand and fittings.

    A steel workshop.

The system is intended for smoke removal. Any obtained metal particles will go back to the furnace.

A small centrifugal blower. That excursion was carried out in summer.

The photo was made in November. Here you can see the opposite side of the same ventilator.

The crane with a capacity of 200 tons is 38 m long.

Cable channels are covered with concrete.

Gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, etc are produced at the plant. They use a German technology and will hire German employees as well. The separate production is not included in the structure of the steel plant.

This is an electric station. The access there is restricted now due to commissioning operations.
